Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

smh articleVW Golf GTI in BMW crosshairs | 1 series hatch

I have always been a great fan of BMWs and the only reason I don't own an M3 is I can't afford one, but what the hell are BMW doing, if the Chris Bangle's beemers weren't bad enough these are just plain ugly, I think VW can feel secure if this is what the competition is.

    (Bangle's Butt styling )

you know, with the engines available in the one series range (notably the 123d for me), and BMW's handling prowess, they really could have turned the 1 series into a serious hot hatch alternative with the handling, go, and aesthetics to really capture some interest in the warm-to-hot hatch market.

but the new 1 series just looks like a big-outside-but-intolerably-small-inside sorry excuse for people wanting to buy into a badge (inside which you can access twitter and facebook ) :

I thought the X1 was ugly, but the new 1 series hatch is hideous. That vertical slab of front end looks like someone made a nice car then squashed the front up against a wall to shorten it.
