    Hello all,
Anyone with information or experience with in car cameras. There appears to be limited information on google, but sounds like an interesting concept.
    Regards John

Depends what you want it for. If it is for regular filming check this site

    AutoBlackBox.com.au

This one is no good if you have RNS510, for some reason it interferes.

If you are looking for something professional Go Pro make some good gear, sample of Go Pro full HD Motorsport model

Do these keep recording even when the car is parked?

Reason I ask is because of the increasing number of damage to other people's cars when they are parked. My friend recently had her car keyed parking near the train station. She gets there well before anybody else, so it wouldn't have been a case of keying because of bad parking. There are just some nutcases out there!

The cameras from Auto Blackbox can record when the car is unattended and I think recording can be activated by impact. trouble is you would need one forward facing camera aswell as additional cameras for other views. I am not an expert on this so better to check their website. What I can say is that my RNS510 went crazy with the camera on.

Hey Don, next you will be asking for royalties when footage of your car is broadcast lol. See you next meet/cruise.

We just got one to take with us to the CHRR for Banshee AA/Fuel Dragster. Guys have been using them on fuel dragsters and funny cars with good success. I'll get the specs for you, John.

This was done with a GoPro camera... The sound was a bit crap mounted to the chassis.. I taped the mic port after this and it worked a lot better.

A keen eye will also pick up we blew a head gasket, too. :S

This was done with the GoPro on the same day.

And this was Portland (Don't bag the soft launch.. Wasn't my car. )

From all reports this new jigger should give much better sound and picture quality. If you're willing to wait 3 weeks I'll have vids up!

johnvw - looking for something like this?

The one above is one of a few I could currently find that records while you are parked. If you Google "drive recorders" you'll find a lot more. Drive recorders are specially made for vehicles and they record video in a "loop", i.e. they will delete the oldest video footage to make way for the current one if you reach the disk/memory card limit.

Guys, I am overwhelmed with the reaction.
My first priority is to be able to pick up a number plate ( yes officer it was a red car, see the video , that side swiped me and took off, sorry sonny (well early retirement anyway) there are lots of cars that look like that).
Constant recording via cigarette lighter with ignition off would be very nice.
A quick, convenient means of video playback ( to settle an argument ) would be great.
Sorry chaps I am an old guy ( with a lovely 2011 Gti and 2010 Audi A4 ) and just too many cars a diving in front of me without any indication or reducing my 3 second safety zone to almost nil.
Time to digest this information and return to Mr Google.
                  Best Regards
                  John

The camera we got is called a Vio, if you're interested. Will report back when we've done some work with it.
