  • GTI or not a GTI

I just wanted to ask the question or start a friendly discussion on when is a car really able to be marked as a GTI

    for example

Should a car be marked as a GTI if it has 4 doors?
Should a car be marked as a GTI if it has a factory engine that is available in base models?

Maybe I should have said what makes a car a GTI?

Maybe you should start with defining what makes a car a car

There was a nice little write up in the latest VWMA mag about how the GTi started out..

Edit: This is a stange thing to explain, if you can, try and grab a copy of VWMA 31.

According to VW's original idea. A grand tourer with injection, seriously, LOL

I am lost in this thread or is it just a chance to start arguments

If it is a Grant Tourer and Injected, I guess its a GTi or GTI. I think most people who have an interest in cars would associate Gti with VW Golf.

                Not a bad association!

I'm not sure... hence why I said we should start by what makes a car a car...

btw, peoples, it's GTI. GTi's are Suzuki's and Peugeots!

It's no more significant that GTE (Opel Kadett/Astra) or GTS or whatever tag the manufacturers assigned to the "sports" version of a particular model.
