After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Fitting Number Plates to New Polo

    Hi all,

I collected my brand new polo a week ago but the plates only arrived Friday of last week (I organised personal plates).

I don't know how to fit them though. There are no brackets or pre-drilled holes. Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

    Hey mate.

You have to grab at least 4 self tapping screws (min 2 for each plate), figure out where/how you want to mount the plates, then drill the holes in the plates either the same or slightly larger than the screw threads, and then just screw them into the bumper bars. Optionally, to make it easier for you, you could drill holes into the bumper first using a smaller drill bit than the screw threads (smaller than the "inner core" of the screws, not the outside of the thread!).

Alternatively, if you are really enthusiastic about the presentation of your car and plates, you could purchase and install Lakin Custom Brackets and Covers like I did for my Golf R and fit them.

Are you talking about the front or back? For the rear; you'll have to measure out the dead centre of the area to ensure the plates are centered and flat (or I'll come knocking on your door, for I am an OCD bastard ). I'd recommend getting a a bracket to mount your rear plate so you won't have to drill any additional holes through the plates themselves, and it pretty much guarantees that they'll be centered. I got my brackets from Westside BMW.

What size plates did you get?

Just use 3M double sided tape... No drilling holes, no promoting rust, and lasts... Don't worry about them falling off, because they won't... I have had mine held on with tape for well over 3 years...
