See what happens when soulless Bogan red heads come into power!! Awesome Post though Corey... We are one of the biggest producers or bauxite, iron ore, coal, silver, copper, and uranium in the world, and yet we still dont have nuclear power, yet we sell uranium to the USA, India, China, Pakistan, and others!!

Corey you should get your facts checked since allot of what you wrote about coal power and Fukashima is wrong. Modern coal power generating facilities only release water vapor and carbon dioxide in to the air which is not harmful in any way, shape or form. And 4 out of 6 nuclear reactors at fukashima have melted down and/or leaking radiation. » Media Shrugs at Fukushima Nuclear Meltdown and Exposed Fuel Rods Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!
Chernobyl conservatively killed 1 + million people. And fukashima will kill more no doubt. Weeks after the fukashima melt down America realized massive radiation increases in their atmosphere, but to combat it they just raised the safety levels. (im sure you can all see the BS)
Im sure modern nuclear plant are pretty darn safe, just like modern coal power facilities are. And if both are monitored properly with care and attention im pretty sure they could serve us both for hundreds of years to come. But all governments likes money more than society. And for that reason I'd rather have coal plant than nuclear plant, since if both plants malfunction you must remember that radiation has half a life of hundreds of millions of years.
FYI, National geographic put out a report stating that NASA own data says that the ice caps on MARS are melting. Maybe the human beings living on mars should get a carbon tax?? Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says
Either way this carbon tax is a total FRAUD and I hate it and it makes my blood boil. Say goodbye to the last of Australian manufacturing industry and for massive unemployment to come in the next decade. Just like the income tax, this carbon tax will start of small and raise bit by bit. I can see it already the government saying "our tax isnt having a big enough effect on climate change, we must charge you more, we must raise your electricity, gas, water bill more, MORE, MORE, MORE"

You can confirm my facts at Wikipedia.com, who in turn acknowledge their sources. There are lots of "made up" (or maybe conspiracy theorist?) figures in your post, such as chenobyl.Only 64 people died as a direct cause of radiation. The W.H.O. considers those deaths and adds the cancer deaths and considers the death toll to be more like 4,000. Greenpeace's reports suggest it could be up to 200,000 given all the added cancer throughout the region. But this is theorized not hard figures. You can read the reports yourself. It's all freely available.
As for Fukashima killing more than Chenobyl... wow! I haven't even seen any conspiracy theorist sites brave enough to make that claim yet!
Also, modern coal plants do not just give out water vapor and carbon dioxide. Why do you think there has been all this discussion about whether or not the carbon tax is going to go towards the development of "clean coal energy"? It'd be pointless if that's all it was putting out.
I'll answer that for you. In addition to water vapor and carbon dioxide, they're also putting out "nitrogen, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and (in the case of coal-fired plants) fly ash, mercury and traces of other metals." Lets not even get into the trace radioactive elements. Where do you think much of the "acid rain" comes from?
Ironically, whilst "The Simpsons" makes fun of "3 eyed fish" in rivers next to the nuclear power plant, the reality is that coal power plants output so much sulfer, ash and mercury etc, that it's unsafe to eat fish from rivers next to coal power plants.
Not all coal power plants are created equal though. Designs have improved over the years. But the industry still thinks it's about 20 to 25 years away from "clean coal" power stations and carbon capture systems.
Additionally, we're not even using black coal throughout Australia anymore. In VIC especially they're using brown coal, which is even worse as far as emissions. Again, do some reading on the Wikipedia and their sources.
As for modern coal plants being safe. Whilst there have been more deaths at coal power plants over the years than Nuclear (including Chenobyl), that's not the only story. When you combine the mining into the equation, coal power takes an unfortunate land-slide victory in the death toll of workers
Anyway...
I think that the concept of global warming shouldn't even be linked to this debate. Whether it is real or not is not the point. As humans we should strive to use our resources intelligently and efficiently, and aim to reduce pollution. Coal Power Plants and Automobiles are two of the largest sources of world-wide pollution and we should do something about it. In the future, there might be a renewable energy which is truly clean and which can be our primary power source. Right now, that's not the case. Nuclear is the cleanest and most viable alternative until some other solution is found.

You get your info from official sources, Wikipedia, WHO and other organizations and governments. And as long as you are hard headed about these official sources theres nothing I can do. Unfortunately official sources also told us there were WMD's in Iraq and that saddam was throwing babies out of incubators, these FALSE claims led to the death of over 1 million iraqi citizens. They also told us the 9 men with box cutters brought down the two towers and that building 7 fell by fire. They also say that Libya is not a war but kinetic military action, and a no fly zone some how means an aerial bomb bombardment. They tell us that sodium flouride is good for our teeth and dump it in the public water supply when in the 50's it was a known rat poison. They also said their in Afghanistan to fight terrorists (who ever they may be) but on record grow the opium (which is a $500 billion industry) Watch below if you dare
Take the current government. Started off with there will be no carbon tax, then theres a carbon tax, then all the money will be refunded to the public, then some of it will go to the UN, now 20% will go to UN, in the future dont be surprised if 99% goes to the UN and our manufacturing industry goes to China who on record will not have a carbon tax and they are the biggest polluters (if you think carbon is harmful)
You see where Im comming from?? For every truth you tell me these official sources said I can give you 10+ Lies and dis-info they said.
Unfortunately these "official" sources have done more harm than good history shows. And to take their word as gospel is ignorance, especially wikipedia's.-'75 Passat TS

Well as I said... if we want to talk conspiracy theories, then there IS NO CARBON! How's that one for ya? It's all just a scheme to make rich business money. Conspiracy theories are pointless, we need to talk about facts presented from legitimate studies - from both sides of the story, and consider all the information. But not from conspiracy groups.
Whlst you believe that all the governments and the government organisations are corrupt, that's fine. You also feel all the energy companies and bodies are corrupt, that's fine too. But Greenpeace are obviously the opposition to those bodies, and whilst they don't "support nuclear", even they disagree with you.... so...
We'll just agree to disagree. Trying to argue with a conspiracy theorist is as pointless as scooping water out of your basement with a fork.

This gov't makes me see red. Tax apon tax, yet they never fix a problem, just skirt around the outside of it. Australia is nose diving I recon. I just don't see why we can't look for countries that are successful in the areas we are not, and learn from them.VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life
There are few things more satisfying in life than finding a solution to a problem and implementing it

Labour = hate for anyone who works hard and has ambition to succeed. Add extra hate if you don't have any kids and you don't fit into the ever growing "working families" welfare belt that the current government has created.
and **** you all for making me read this thread and getting more angry lol

Anyone who provides a link to Alex Jones is immediately discredited. An absolute nut job and a crank. The only people who believe his little rants are militia members in the more inbred US states.
I don’t have that much of an issue with the basis of the carbon tax. I’m just trying to find some non-hysterical reporting surrounding it. I don’t care if it costs me a bit more a year – I use very little electricity as it is, and it doesn’t currently apply to petrol, and other costs can be absorbed easily enough – as long as it achieves a noticeable drop in the use of non-renewable energy sources. And I will be hard hit by this due to a combination of high tax bracket (not highest thank god) and no children/dependents.
Unfortunately I can’t see that happening due to all the tax cuts and handouts included. I’d prefer it hit people harder for excessive energy use to be honest. Change peoples habits rather than just meddle around the edges. Yes, it is potentially likely to be a problem. Man made? No idea. I’m not buying in to that argument, but come on, the amount of coal, oil and gas burnt can’t be a good thing.
And habits do need to be changed. I fail to see how some people get their energy use so high without really trying. The most I have ever paid was $180 for a quarter, and to me that was a sign that I was being a bit excessive. It’s not hard. Turn off stuff. Turn off lights. Wear a jumper instead of cranking the heating to 24. Actually build solar efficiency into buildings rather than brick blocks on concrete, better insulation, more solar at a local level. Hell, even stormwater harvesting allows for less energy to be wasted treating water that will never be drunk.
But instead of actually looking at options we just get the self absorbed listening to the mad monk (don’t worry – I have the same level of healthy disrespect towards Gillard) blather on and constantly changing his stance to follow the latest opinion poll for those who only care about how much is left in their pocket
It’s funny really. The same cries about industry being destroyed happened with the Montreal Protocol surrounding CFCs. What happened? Nothing. Big industry changed it’s approach, continued to make money, the developing world was given a more relaxed time frame, and the issue is resolving.
But, the most important thing is, that little flutter at buying a couple of thousand bucks worth of geothermal shares a few years back when they were cheap has paid off
