Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • just how good..?

ok so im having this debate with my other half in regards to a new car, went to suss out a skoda octavia this afternoon on my way to work. is it same quality as a vw? i mean yes it does share a lot of things, plus it has the performance of a gti in a wagon, which, to be honest, would be a lot easier for me, for work, im a sales rep, plus a part time dj.

i imagine seeing as it looks to be the same body as a golf wagon, one could most probably put a mk6 golf front end on the skoda?

I actually prefer the facelifted octavia looks vover the golf 6 wagon.

Essentailly they are the same car, the StaNav may be differente but the rest of the car is pretty much VW "spare partS"
Same company, just their entry level brand for Australia.

If the Tiguan wasn't available when i got it i would have gone straight away to the Octavia.

I'd pick the Octavia. great cars.

I drove an Octavia RS last year (which the owner encouraged me to go to town on) and it really impressed me.

Build quality is still excellent and they don't "look" like a budget brand by any means.

The quality and reliability is better than VW, based on owner satisfaction.
