Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Looking for advice!

hi all, i'm looking for advice to help sway me.

i have a 2008 GTI Pirelli with APR Stage 1... my choices are to either continue with upgrades of source a MKVI R...

options for upgrades are new bushes, WALK, sways and coilovers... mad wheelspin today on tight corners so the pirelli really needs these before any further engine/performance mods...

Brand new Golf R loaded with goodies...

My options appear to be simple but is getting my head spinning...

please help, all opinions greatfully appreciated!

Up to you... It's your money... Is upgrading your Pirelli going to cost more than buying an R??

This. The MKV is still new, I'd stick with it unless I had cash to burn.

Unless you want 4wd, stick with the Pirelli and get some KW V3s.

AWD is good but not the best thing since sliced bread, a well tuned suspension setup in your FWD car and you could achieve maximum traction for street driving or even circuit racing.

Solid bushes, suspension tuning i.e. camber, caster and toe, stickier/wider tires and unsprung weight i.e. wheels, brakes, rotors make all the difference

hey, long time no see... you've been quiet recently!

yeah, looking at bushes, coilovers, sways and walk. might put some camber on when i get the next set of tyres...
going to keep the stock rims, paint chrome black if possible.
are you still attached to your spare red stripe?

Don get the chrome powdercoated i know the perfect place.. looks so much better. Camber kits are fun to play around with or I could give your car the same look as mine rofl. Minus the crabbing rofl

i like to watch dancing cars, not real keen on driving them! lol

no, looking for black-chrome paint and hopefully black-chrome paint or replacement exhaust tips...

What place did you have in mind?

Been busy! Yeah I'm still keeping my spare red stripe, might be selling the car soon so might revert everything back to stock and put the rear wiper back

solid bushes (anti lift kit) made a whole heap of difference to my stock car, less axle tramping, so personally I think it's a must do mod if you're a stage 1 pirelli. It's not that expensive either so a pretty good bang-for-buck mod in my opinion.

hopefully we'll catch up at the next QLD sometime and go for a cruise
