Whilst the S3 was nice, the lower roof line meant that my girlfriend couldn't sit in the back seat without constantly hitting her head on the "sunroof bump" and some of my male friends just had no chance of getting in there.

Why do you make your GF sit in the backseat.

The 1.8T in the 9N3 Polo GTI goes from 110kw/220Nm to 152kw & 328Nm
Being that it's 300kg light than even the Golf R, it is considerably faster than a stock R in many conditions...

Sure 9N3 Polo GTI APR Tune and MK4 Golf GTI APR Tune.

The Polo GTI is newer and lighter than the Golf, but you're not likely to find one for "just over $10k" yet...
