Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Car on the way but license suspended...

Umm I've placed a deposit on my GTI and it's on the way for delivery next week
But I got a visit from police today saying that I got caught speeding at 45km/h over the limit and I could get license suspended for the next 12 months...

    Should I cancel my order?

Your order will just 'bout be ready for delivery...if you take the opportunity to respec to an R?

      what were you thinking mate?

get the car and save it for when you are ready to drive again if you lose it.

If you're going to lose your license, you might as well forfeit your deposit and cancel the order, otherwise the car will just sit around unused (well, by you anyway) for 12 months, depreciating.

Alternatively... ask the dealer to change your order to a custom-spec 2012-build car, ready for you to take delivery when you get your license back (assuming you'll not be put on P plates and be unable to drive a turbo when you do get it back).

Sorry to hear you're in such a difficult situation, but really, there's no excuse for speeding. Maybe spend your GTI money on a dedicated track car instead!

Best thing to do in my opinion is to cancel the order as AdemD suggested. Explain ur situation to the dealer - they should refund ur deposit (i just got my full deposit back).

Have you looked into the options for license retention..? I think if you lose or gain 13 points then you can elect to go on a probationary license for 12 months, if you lose that then you are done

I'd cancel the order and buy a $5k project car to smash at the track/drags.

Having a suspended licence can have implications for insurance (ie they wont!)

Best to cancel order and see how things pan out in 12months

Not sure how it goes in Vic, but they were supposed to be cracking down on that. For a low level points infringement (ie lots of 10km/h over, or illegal u-turns or the like) you'd have a better chance than 45k over.
If it were me, I'd cancel the order. Look at it this way: Depreciation over 12 months, warranty period winding down, rego (and I'd still want to insure it). Few people have posted up 'available cars' but I'm hearing/thinking you have a Mk6 GTi on order, which there is not a huge waiting list for.
40k in your bank account is worth at least $2k in interest, more if you put it in a term deposit (and worth the same gain of you are borrowing too)

You could get your license suspended or you will? I wouldn't give up, but again it depends how is your record as a driver and what for did you lose your demerit points?

I've been a pretty good driver...
I think 12 month is kinda too harsh
