Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 25mm MC overkill??

Is a 25mm MC from a G60 Corrado an overkill to use on my 75' Passat? Im upgrading my braking system. So far got larger front calipers from a Audi 80 86' model, Brake booster from a Seat Ibiza, In the process of getting rear Mk3 Brake setup with rear proportioning valve. But I got a 25mm MC in my possession. But worried it will be TOO firm and be an overkill?? Would you agree??

I had a 22mm one on my old diesel, with basically the same set up you'll end up with (except rear discs) and honestly, I could smash passengers heads into my dash if I wanted to.

I found the biggest limiting factor in brake performance was now tyre quality, road quality and wheel alignment settings.

So yes, perhaps it's overkill. I know the 22mm item will be more than enough.

Sounds like I'm better off going with a 20mm MC then. I want the braking to be firm, but you described the 22mm as being TOO firm. Ill have to look into it some more.

firmness is more to do with the booster, than the MC. The booster just amplifies (boosts..) the force applied by the pedal, to the MC. MC applies the force to the brakes.

honestly, my car's brakes felt like a mk 3's brakes do, except that the performance was better, cause it was in a lighter car

        HTH.
