Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Vibram Five Fingers - Anyone wearing them or tried them?

Seriously considering a lifestyle change (healthy eating, more exercise, healthy mindset etc) and out of heaps of my reading (mostly based around Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint) i've come across a cool barefoot shoe - http://www.barefootinc.com.au/produc...e=sprint&id=34

It appears that for more "civilised" arenas like walking around shops and whatnot, more people try the Masai shoes (Step into a stronger body.) but i'm just curious to see if anyone has any real-world experience?

Bought a pair of KSOs in black in May 2009 from a US e-tailer. Best shoes I ever had. Still looking like new today after a couple of dozen of washing machine cycles I had them on for 14 hours straight when on a shopping spree in Melbourne in 36 C heat and didn't have the slightest problem. In the mean time my wife swapped 2 pairs of shoes and had blisters galore!
Don't even think buying on ebay, they're all fake. I got some just to see if they're any good for $30 delivered but it was a total waste of money...

You would need a nice pair of candy stripe toe sox to go with them....

Hahahahaha, sorry man, I couldn't resist!!

                  and looking like a retard

i dont know how people can run in them - the heel-strike would be horrendous.

If you can run barefooted you can run with the Fivefingers on. Simple as that. I'm a big fan of Nike Free, supposedly as close to barefoot running as it gets. Well, they're far off the mark when compared to Vibram's Fivefingers KSO.
I understand they're too advanced for some tech retards out there. That's OK, it often happens with stuff well ahead of its time

Just ordered these at kayakshed.com fro $137 delivered:

Building on the success and versatility of the KSO and KSO Trek, Vibram FiveFingers presents the TrekSport. The TrekSport offers a 4mm EVA midsole for plating protection and a lightly cleated 4 mm Vibram performance rubber outsole for added traction on a variety of surfaces. The Coconut Active Carbon upper offers natural breathability and abrasion resistance for maximum performance during your outdoor and athletic pursuits.

BEST FOR: Light Trekking, Trail and Road Running, Cross Training, CrossFit, Walking and Travel

Just wanted to add that I purchased my KSOs from the same online shop almost two years ago.

i have vibram in my merrell hiking shoes and it rocks. for a fat bastard like me, it makes walking 12km's (when i occasionally feel guilty and decide to go for a walk) a breeze.

as someone who pretty much always wears flip flops, i'd much prefer these, especially when i put aside the day to go for a fang up reefton, or in/ around king lake (until now i've just worn socks)

I wonder how these would go in regards to fit and comfort for people like myself and Buller_Scott who have wide feet and a damn low arch (or non-existant at best) i.e. flat foot?

I have wide feet and low arches and they are fine.

They are really good for walking through water such as rivers. I plan to try them reef walking one day.
If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.

Forget kayakshed.com, they are not allowed to ship fivefingers to Australia... The sent an e-mail to that effect seconds after I placed the order...
There is a national distributor that has exclusivity down under, barefootinc.com.au You can find there a list of retailers, too. Bloody bastards, the double US the prices!!! For instance, currently the pair I wanted to buy from US is at AUD 199.00 here, compared to $99.00 in US. Why? I thought that only happened with cars?!

From an Orthopaedics angle these free style shoes strengthen your foot the way it is supposed to be, and I have chatted about these style of shoe with more than one foot and ankle specialist in my day job. I am mad keen to get a pair, but there are versions that look a little more normal and will keep certain polo driving members of the armed forces a little happier!
