replacement key for mk4 golf.- HOW TO?

Expensive option - Go to dealer approx $410

My prefferred option:

Key with FOB off Ebay- check that it matches with 2001 Mk4 golf. approx $80
Key cut by Locksmith
Key/remote programmed by my VW mechanic/specialist $80

Is this possible? any success stories? any links would be appreciated.

by replacement do you mean a spare? or just replacing part of it?
have a look in the mk4 section, this has been discussed many times
