Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Issue with DSG gearbox

I've got a 09 Passat with the DSG gearbox and I think there may be an issue, not 100% sure. It's very subtle and hard to detect and replicate. Going round a corner and then accelerating out of it, nothing happens, there's a pause for over 1 - 2 seconds. It's not really a big problem, but definitely doesn't feel right. It only occurs occasionally. Has anyone come across this problem before? Is it something VW are aware of?

Mate, your best bet is to go to a VW dealer and get them to scan the car. There is countless threads on this site alone regarding DSG gearbox issues across the VW range.
Problems with the DSG gearbox are by no means a rare occarance, and the reason I would never own a car that has has a DSG gearbox... In my mind they are a nightmare and a money pit waiting to happen.

100% agree with both statements. Maybe it can be solved in now time, if the scan shows a small error.

get it looked at. If there is hesitation when trying to accelerate then this is not right... the first thing they do is usually "reset" the gearbox... think this is a software thing.

Ok cool thanks. I guess I was hesitating, because it's so subtle I'm not even 100% there is a problem and it's really hard to replicate, but there is something that's not quite right. I'll give em a buzz.

This initially happened to mine and progressively got worse over time. The service department didn't initially pick it up and didn't mention that it is somewhat common occurrence.

If I'm not mistaken it has something to do with the mechatronics.

I say this because they changed two sensors then the mechatronics unit.

Now good as new. So there is hope if under warranty.
