Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Changing gears with DSG?

I am new to both tiptronic and DSG so may need a bit of a hand.
I was reading the manual for my DSG polo gti and it said that you should never apply the accelerator when changing gears.
But it wasn't quite clear whether it was talking about just manuals.
So is it possible to change gears with the paddle shifters while on the accelerator? Or when changing from say D to S?
Or is this a big no no?
It has confused me a little..

I've got a DSG and I can safely say you can upshift while accelerating... There'd be no point to it if you couldn't

        Thanks guys.
But what about from D to S?
I know this may sound kinda dumb, but I just ask because you need to have your foot on the brake pedal when changing to P, R, D etc...so what about between S and D?
I'm guessing you can safely do that, but I'd prefer to check

You can safely change between D and S whilst you have your foot on the accelerator. No brakes required.

Last year, when I drove one at the VW track day, I put it in S as soon as I got in the car.
I wouldn't use D unless I was carting my mother in law around or something along those lines.

Hmm. . . I use the S mode only when I drive with my mother in law.
