MP3 Player Recommendations For Non VW Vehicle

One of my work colleagues want to buy his wife an MP3 player, he's fairly keen on the Creative X-Fi2 but he also wants to be able to plug it into a USB port in his wife's Cruze. I don't know anything about MP3 players, I use a memory stick plugged into my Golf's MDI so I'm not much help really.

Any suggestions or recommendations for a suitable MP3 player would be most welcome.
