Good on you!
Public access to faciliticies like these are what young children and adolescents need in fostering positive physical activity habits and healthy lifestlyes. I see it day after day with young teenagers sitting in front of TVS, computers, playstations etc. It would frighten you to see the amount of overweight, obese and uncoordinated children that i teach. Simple and basic things like balance (cant walk across a balance beam or run in a straight line), hand eye coordination (cant catch) or even kick a ball..
Saddens me to walk through the streets of an afternoon after work and see hardly any kids outside being kids

I sympathise with the OP and agree with MissVuks sentiments BTW welcome back Lora, long time no post. The problem is the way society has evolved in the last 20 - 30 years, there was a time when we accepted responsibility for our actions and if we got hurt we accepted it as fact and got on with life. These days if someone gets hurt the first thing that happens is lawyers get involved and we sue for damages, as a consequence, Governments, Councils, Companies in fact any sort of organisation (i.e. surf lifesaving clubs etc.) have to a) take out public liability insurance and b) in order to find an insurer willing to take on their risk, take steps to minimise risk.
The reality is that in cases such as this, the Council is covering it's backside to eliminate the potential for litigation, I'm sure that they would rather have not taken this action but had no choice but to do so.
It is a sad indictment of our society, as MissVuks says, it is sad to see no kids out playing cricket, footy etc. as was the case when I was young, the big losers of course are our youth......no wonder we are becoming a fat, overweight, inactive, bored and even violent society.
I hope the OP can talk the Council into providing a suitable facility.06 Jetta 2.0TFSI Killed by a Lexus!

Congrat's on getting it resolved.
It is a shame when public liability causes the removal of outdoor expereinces which as has been pointed out previously in this thread results in reduced outdoor activities and increases in eye damage (requiring glasses earlier on) and obesity.
I remember when i grew up playing street cricket, riding bikes, going to the local skate park, playing footy in the park etc.
Now it's all Wii this and 3Ds that because there are no facilities and no desire to go outside.
Hopefully you can get it better than ever and the individual lines will probably help it flow better.

james man, im sorry to hear / read about the plight of your playground.
i feel your pain... not that my experiences can compare with this (a four year effort), but i've been there - sawing down trees, hiking up and down thigh deep snow, freezing my nuts off and wondering "why do i put myself through this utter s**t" for 3 days to build a kicker in a little known part of the mountain, only to have it poached on the two days im at uni, then ploughed and closed down as "hazardous terrain".
hope you got a ****pile of snaps over the years
