funny saying that.... my dads xjs was a "large car" in 1975, but now the cruze is the same size!!Originally posted by Buller_Scott View Postaudi RS3UV, more like it.
man, really... how much longer are car manufacturers going to force the issue, making small cars bigger, and bigger, and bigger?
(e.g. they call the holden cruze a ''small car''... it's almost the same size - albeit shorter - as the current camry, side by side)

maybe i've gotta get with the times... im still holding onto the idea of "hot hatches", not "hot wagons".

I'm with you on this. Hot hatches use to weigh 900 kg when VW invented the genre over 30 years ago. Look at them now, my Clio-considered a light weight, is over 1,200 kg while an R weighs over 1,500 kg. Hatches almost as heavy as the V8s of the 80s. Ridiculous, isn't it?
I understand that car safety is so much better today, but we're supposed to use steel and plastics in a smarter way. I can't see any excuse for constantly increasing the size of cars, is a bloody marketing tool. If only the weight of the car would become as important as fuel economy...

I've been saying this for quite a few years now.. And yeah, it's complete BS. My Mk1 is waaaaay smaller than the current Polo.

The compact RS3 is weighing in at "only" 1,575 kg.
Looks more like 1,800 kg in the video though.
Specs here.

i absolutely agree. i'd bet my left nut that by the time we get to the mk8 golf, we'd be looking at ''hot hatches'' that'd weigh more than holden vt HSV clubsports...Originally posted by sabloke View PostI'm with you on this. the seat ibiza's are still small-ish, but i think they're an acquired taste, and god knows i wont be looking at an audi a1 anytime soon (an a8 grille on a 2 door almost-kei car? eugh...).
im sorry... a 1600 kg automatic "hatch back" with quad zone habitat control, 3d cinema console, sat-nav, tri-corder and holodecks, isnt really MY personal idea of a ''hot hatch'', no matter how fast it gets to the speed limit without pushing you back in your seat, nor spilling your mug of coffee.
man, bmw is smart. the way things are going, mini will have the monopoly on ''hot hatches''.... because everyone else's ''hot hatch'' will be 4500mm long and weigh just as much as a 2000 HSV clubsport (1653kgs, by the way- only a few kg's to go!).
oh, sabloke- if ever you feel that your clio is just too big, or anything else, and want to get rid of it, let me know.... after having driven a clio RS the other day, it's official.... i would commit bloody ****ing murder to have your car.
