Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Old wheels and tyres

    Hey Folks
In the process of a major clean-up at home I've stumbled across about 30 old tyres on rims (I've also found a bit of mk1 stuff but that's for another time). I've done a bit of a ring around and tyre places/recyclers/scrappies want silly money to take them off my hands. Does anyone have any trade knowledge they can share on who to get in touch with in Western Sydney? There's no fancy wheels, just stock rims off crappy old cars (although I do remember seeing a set of mk1 alloys amongst it). They've all been lying around for at least 10-15 years so the tyres would be shot. Sorry for the essay.
    Cheers and thanks in advance

    Same problem here.

I stripped all the alloys and sold them to the metal scrappy which paid for the tyre disposal.

I got rid of 8 tyres last week @ $10 ea! ouch! They had to go though.

Need to find a better way.

On the plus side though the same council facility took all my waste oil for $0.50 per litre. ( I had lots!)

Woolworths + dumpster... Do a midnight run so you aren't caught... This is also a good way to dispose of bodies...

        might be a little random...
find someone that may want recycle them, people do the normal things like dam walls to stop corrosion, tree guards etc. People are now using them to build there houses.
We have a wall of them in one of our paddocks as a wind barrior and something for animals to rub on.

Thanks guys for your help. I found a mob at St Marys (tyrecycle) that took 'em. Cost me $85 but there ended up being about 30 tyres (including truck tyres and rims) and they're nice people too. By the way Blitzen, I'm from Blacktown....we do body disposal in broad daylight at the woolies dumpster.....

Blue Circle Southern Cement here took a few off me while I was working a shutdown there ages ago. They burn them to heat the furnaces and catalyze the fumes from the burning or something like that.
Surely there's somewhere that can use em.
