Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Top Gear USA

    Hi guys.
Top Gear US has started up., just thought i would let you know
So far they are up to ep 2 and it is starting to look pretty decent (much better than our dodgy version)
It is never going to be as good as TG-UK but it is a worthy mid season replacement and as we are all car nuts it gives us something to watch while we wait.

Ep 1 was a bit forced and seemed a bit odd but they are getting their act together for ep 2, especialy the rooster tails and the interview with Dom Monaghan both from Routledge

Haven't watched ep2 yet but ep1 made the 3 seasons of AU version look like the steaming piece of **** that is. 3 different sets of hosts and 3 total failures. Zero chemistry!

Though it's pretty hard to make a segment on 3 lambos crap hehe

The lambo segment was good, the dodge viper thing was a bit strange, just fealt really staged.

The thing i prefer in this US series over the UK version is that i know the star's they interview and put around the track.
Also i get a lot more of the jokes as American culture is more prevelant in our media.

I did the same, i always skiped the UK interviews as it was some radio personality ort something nad i couldn't be arsed, now the US series has shorter interviews, with people i know nad the show is getting quite good as a mid season replacement, even if Adam Ferrara is a bit annoying.

                  I havent seen TGUSA yet.
I saw the first two episodes of the latest TG Aust with that Kenny bloke. It wasn't too bad I thought. A few more episodes to get the chemistry happening and it would've been good. The shane warne thing with the morgan was crap though.

So far we are up to Ep 5 and i feel it is going great.
Each epsiode they seem to loosen up more and the challenges are pretty good, even though there are a few copies from the UK series.

I can see this being a big thing and a good replacement for the UK series during their mid year breaks.

I feel the biggest problem with TGUS is that they try too hard to be exactly like TGUK. I think the format needs to be a bit looser, and they need to find thier own groove. (and stop trying to copy clarksons offbeat humour/jokes!)

All in all, not too bad to watch.

They do tend to be a bit like "wannabe TG:UK" but that is an established show and this is still only at EP 5 of the first series.
If it keeps going i am sure it will turn out to be on par if not better than TG UK.

TG UK has been a fail of late as well, I mean how few car reviews have there been lately despsite so many new cars. I wonder if either manufacturers are starting to not want to give them cars (size of the audience, if they pay it out, not good for sales) or they're going more to entertainment value with the challenges?

The US show has potential, its already better than all the aussie eps combined but the hosts, I'm not sure about. The drifter seems like a sad sack. If he's winning a challenge, all good. Otherwise seems like a party pooper. And adam isn't funny despite thinking he is!

Okay so season 1 is about to wrap up with 1 more episode to go (behind the scenes and other background stuff).
The season started off quite slow but has been gaining momentum and hillarity over time.
The latest episode (S01E09) was my favourite for the season, buying used offroad trucks to go to alaska, great viewing.

If they keep going with this i can only forsee it getting better and better.
More topgear of reasonable quality is a good thing, especially since we would normally only get 14 epsiodes a year.
