Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

In which case it probably has 30 updates ready to go on. Oh, hang on, the PS3 is Sony, not MS
Not a bad idea to update as much as possible to see if that is the issue - the PS3 might have been manufactured 12 months ago, and require some updates to work with GT5.

Connected to cable broadband @ 1000000mb/ps...

It is up to date- there are a few special stages (so far) that I cannot load as it cashes every time I try.
Crap crap crap. It's the only game that has EVER crashed my PS3. also the dts sound is all over the shop- drops out and sometimes goes off on a high pitch whine. My amp doesn't do this with anything else... CRAP!

EB said they would trade it for $92 store credit which given the online side of it is so poor I'm considering.

Is anyone else playing on a screen that isn't a new LCD or Plasma? I'm on an older rear projection screen and found it nearly impossible to read anything on the screen.

Well I'm loving GT5 at the moment. Its one of the few things keeping me sane while I wait for delivery of my Golf R due in a few weeks!

I am up to level 15 now and just got the Veyron after winning gold in the A Spec Professional Series Gran Turismo World Tour Championship. Managed to win that in a fully modified Honda NSX-R LM Prototype that I bought in the used car lot for around 499k. That thing handles awesome and with all the mods is a damn good car indeed!

Now that I have the Veyron I have pretty much modified it as well as far as it will go and lightened it from about 1800kg down to around 1400kg. Also bought Racing soft tyres for it and it has so far pretty much spanked every car that I have raced against including some open online events.

Some people have written the Veyron off as crap handling and almost undriveable on some tracks but with it fully modded , lightened and with soft tyres it has been awesome for me. The NSX-R handles a bit better but the Veyron isn't that bad after mods and the top speed and pull off the line is fantastic. I also turn off traction control, turn on skid recovery force and bump up ABS up to 10 so u don't lock up coming down from ridiculous speeds! lol. So far so good. Can't wait to try a fully modded Ferrari Enzo etc Awesome game with a decent wheel!!

Seems impossible, huh? Some of those special challenges are just plain bull****.

                    I know what you mean.
It's like the snow tyres are bald instead of studded lol!
Dirt2 was way more fun rally style, Gt5 doesn't pull it off.

the whole standard/premium car thing is starting to get to me.

the difference is quite large, im really noticing the fact that the game is only half finished.

Yeah the premium cars look the biz but the standard cars are an absolute joke. All they did was bring existing cars over from GT4 and upscale them a bit.

Ive been playing Gran Tursimo since it was first released on ps1 i picked up gt5 a few weeks back and i must say Im not that impressed just seems more of the same graphics are cool car controls are better but Im just not that into it maybe ive just played it to much. Must admit this standard/ premium car business is a bit of a headache this game has been around so long its seems to get worse rather than better, Gran Tursimo was the rule breaker back when it came out but now most other car games have more options.

I still think Gran Tursimo 2 on PS1 is still the best and its the only one i have finished

Well still playing GT5 and loving it with a wheel. Almost level 21 in A-Spec and have a couple of nice cars including the Toyota Minolta 88-CV, Fully modified Corvette ZR-1 and McLaren Merc SLR with 900hp. The Nurbugring races are tough to keep the car on the track but great fun. Also found the GT All stars championship pretty hard even with the ZR-1 but managed to win in the end by 15 points. Been saving for ages to get some of the more expensive cars are well, but need to be around levl 23 + to drive them. Can't believe some guys online already have the Red Bull X1 2010 proto. That car just flogs everything else in the game!
