Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I took this pic at the BMW museum at Spartenburg, in South Carolina. It was funny, looking at the block, seeing where the the old alternator mounts and other stuff from the stock 2002 1.6L had been machined off... What alot of people don't realise is that these blocks had done at least 100,000km in a normal BMW 2002 road car before they were made into a fire breathing monster... This is why they are classed as the most powerful production car engine ever produced.

apparently they used to leave the blocks out in the weather and the engineers used to wee on them

I have seen a lot of those used in snowboarding jumps, is there any specific reason or just cos it looks cooler/is harder?
