Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC Roads P-Plate Turbo-exemption approval process

    Hi Guys,

I cant wait to drive my new golf! VicRoad said they received my application this tuesday, might take one or two weeks to progress.

My new golf is crying in the dealer shop now T.T

I am just wondering how long any of green P-plate drivers actually waited to get the silly approve?

    Many thanks!

    Hi Mate,

I've renamed this thread title so it's clearer, and I've moved it to General, as it applies to any turbo based VW (Polo, Tiguan, Jetta, etc).

I applied twice for the P-plate turbo exemption with no luck.

They'll occasionally allow turbo Kei-Cars past. Guess it comes down to your age.

I waited 'til I was 21. Guess that doesn't help you too much?
How old are you anyway, if I may ask?
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

Ah ok - I was afraid I'd lose the 'youngest 118 TSI owner' title around here

How old are you? I think I still hold then 'youngest Jetta TDI owner' title

OP: At least your exemptions are reasonable. The only way an exemption will be approved in QLD is if it's the only car in the household, or you purchaed it before the new P plate laws came in back in July of 2007. Not even the Golf 77TSI can get approval outside of these conditions.

                    I see... Perhaps I should get a 118 instead of a 147

Wait what.....you can be granted exemption? :O On what grounds?

Out of all the turbo and V8 p-platers i know, ive only ever heard of 2 people being busted for driving a performance car....out of like 80 people. I dont think you have to worry to much about it.

I've never applied for one, so I can't be too sure of the process and how long it takes.

I'll be going on my opens in about three weeks, I won't need to submit an exemption from November the 7th onwards.

In other words, OP has to show cleavage to get the exemption sped up. Now why didn't I think of that?
