Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

For the last time, it doesn't matter what car you drive, you will be able to speed in it!

I drove a 37kW diesel mk 1, and I could still speed in that! It is however, harder to 'slip' over the speed limit.

Gehard, you missed the point I was trying to make, but I'm not going to bother explaining it, since I don't know you at all.

You've already proved you can go without a car/license for so long, I don't think it'll be too hard for you to go for another 6 months.

I will then have the option of loosing it for 6 months (that sucks heaps!) or keeping it for 12 months on 1 point.

      Hi Stu,

Sorry to hear about your predicament. If I understand this correctly (correct me if I'm wrong), you have the option of keeping it or losing it again.

I'd say keep it for 12 months on 1 point. Take the bus if you have to. To record a conviction of a suspended licence is a pain in the proverbial when it comes to insurance (as someone has already already pointed out), some work applications, travel visa applications or entry questionnaires for other countries, police clearances etc. You don't feel the shame and pain of these things until they come back to haunt you 3, 4, 5.. years down the road when you've been more matured with nary a demerit point to your name, but you have to admit to something silly like having a recorded criminal conviction (even if it's for a suspended driving licence) years ago.

But if you think that you've already lost it once and a further conviction won't cause any harm, then take the 6 months. But personally, I'd take 12 months, 1 point and take the bus or cycle. Take it as an opportunity to get fit and healthy.

Ozram and gerhard seriously get your heads out of your arses, fair enough he might not of proven to you his reformed (not that he even has to, that’s what doing the time and paying the fines are for), still doesn't give you the right to be assholes and insult the kid.

He has asked a legitimate question got an answer or advice without the underlining insults or the “I'm a massive prick ego” great if not just keep your mouth shut.

That being said Stu if your deadset on driving and after 18months of not driving I would be. Id stick to driving the bug and driving as little as possible, only work and back or when I have no other choice.

He asked for an opinion and I gave one. If its not to yours or his liking, bad luck. I'm entitled to comment as much as the next bloke, albeit not quite as insulting and crude as yours.

Maybe you are around the same age as him I don't know. I *do* know that I've been in both of your shoes. Have you been in mine?

Then inane drivel like you have just spouted is pointless. I have better things to do than justify myself to you. Getting embroiled in arguments with strangers on public forums is petty and childish. It also demeans the operators of the forum. You have your views on road safety, and I have mine. Maybe we should just agree to disagree. I think its in the best interests that I will comment no further.

i'd take the 6months and wait stu.
When i got pinned for speeding (not proud of it) every time a local cop was near me they'd wait till i went past, pull into the lane behind me, and drive right up my rear and wait for me to do something stupid or make a mistake. That lasted about a month and i then seemed to drop off there 'hot' list.
You should be able to hold out another 6months, maybe get it moved forward as much as you can (think that's what you meant earlier on).
Either way, good luck and hope you can get it sorted quickly and enjoy the time back behind the wheel (without any more fines and speeding of coarse!)

Yes true you can have an opinion.

What happens if it turns i was a 60 male... Would that change things? Obviously. So really your telling anyone who looses there licence to just leave it lost and don't drive again and that they can't drive again?

And so you have been in my shoes... So what did you do wise cracker? Obviously your driving now...

If it were me Stu I'd probably take the 12 months 1 pt deal, but that would be because I can not survive without driving (no public transport).

Perhaps if you want to keep the your licence for 12 months on so few points, could you do half public transport half beetle driving?

I definitely wouldn't drive unlicensed though, if you smash into someone that can seriously get you into a lifetime of legal and financial trouble.

Yep opinion on taking a 12 month probation or a 6 months lose of license after his served his punishment not sure how "or maybe just grow up" fits under that.

Maybe you are around the same age as him I don't know. I *do* know that I've been in both of your shoes. Have you been in mine?
mate i know nothing about you and you know nothing about stu , I'm sure i could learn plenty from you past experiences but i doubt your experiences gives you the foresight to know a total strangers character and if they need to grow up.

Inane no , crude and insulting yes and I aplogise for that, but my point still stands. Just like you shouldn't have to justify your self to my character judgments nor should i have put them out there.

and Stu doesn't have to justify himself to your judgments either because you shouldn't of put them out there

This thread was not meant be a debate about road rules or if Stu had learned his lesson or not , it was which option (12 month probation or a 6 months lose of license) would be the right one to choose.
