Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • badges on our cars

i start looking into de-badging the hatch on the mk4.Pure reason the badge look to big and ugly and was after much smaller badge or no badge at all + cleaner look.Doing some research and find out that there are many ways of doing it such as going with smaller sharan barge etc..and one of them is welding the section where the badge sit with a plate to cover the hole where the badge sits.Big job for getting rid off the large vw badge but what about the front badge with the bonet cut around it or maybe some latter model with badges serving as a handles.it looks like the badges are getting bigger and ever more uglier and harder to get rid off.I would like to know if this is purposely than so people can not mistaken the vw with some other car or is the design being so people can not remove them or a bit of both.

I think it's a bit of both, I haven't taken off my VW badge on the tailgate so I don't know how easy they'd be to get off (I've removed the other three though) . Perhaps also to prevent people stealing badges?
