Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just putting it out there but I was thinking this week...

If the R32 V6 was dropped due to emissions compliance issues then how much longer will the R36 be around? Ok I know that Skoda have released the new V6 powered Superb, but whats the chances that the next Passat R will go 3.0TDI ?

Different engine design using much more conventional and economical (both cost and environmental) designs. I can't see it going anywhere from a compliance standpoint however with VWs focus on more economical power delivery systems maybe they could do a performance TDI.
    Cheers,

My personal pref would be to see them lose the current V6 in favour of a Audi V8 and make the R series Passats more sporty. It's only a niche market anyway. But I'll be looking at the new VW coupe when the time comes. It's either that or the 3.0TDI A5.

This would make things very interesting, forget emissions:

How does the VR5 compare in economy and power to the VR6?
If the VR5 is alright in both those area, then maybe a turbo'd VR5 may be a possibility?
Dunno much about the VR5 so just a thought.
