Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

OK so you don't want fines for breaking the law? What's the alternative? Prison time? Laws are NOT made to be broken.

If someone murders your family (breaking the law) should they not be penalised for it? Of course they should.

Going faster than the posted speed limit has been PROVEN to be unsafe and therefore doing so is breaking the law. Penalties apply, as they should, but if it wasn't a monetary fine, people wouldn't care. Unfortunately human nature dictates that the best way to penalise someone is take away their freedom or take money from them.

But you never speed and are Ayrton Senna.....rightttttt

Exactly correct, there are a number of factors.

So i believe they should funnel some of the revenue they get from the cameras into proper driver training systems which would rthen see a reduction in road incedents and allow an increase in speed levels.

first id like to say iv been fined for speeding
i took the hit and i learnt my lesson

now think of it like this
if you got hit by a speeding driver how would you feel?
if someone you loved got hit by a speeding driver how would you feel?

theres only so much the government can do and if this is one of those things so be it
be more careful and you wont have to worry

and as for the whole 'if you dont get your fine till like 2 months later how can you change your behaviour' senario... if the fact that you could kill someone by not following the law doesnt change your behaviour then maybe just knowing these cameras are out there to catch you should help you change your behaviour

No it hasn't been proven at all. You can skew statistics anyway you want to make things into your favour. Going 61km/h in a 60km/h zone is not unsafe and to argue otherwise is ludicrous. Even a 3km/h difference as the idiots in Victoria work can be had by looking at the speedo at a slightly different angle.

What I want is appropriate speed limits and proper police patrols with officers applying common sense and their own discretion as to whether a certain speed being traveled at is actually dangerous. That is as opposed to the career traffic officer jerks on power trips who even the proper police despise.
No camera vehicle is going to pickup the idiot stoned out of his brains driving at 10km/h on 80km/h stretch or the bucket old falcadore with bald tyres and no lights. Or the OAP who finds roundabouts confusing and goes around one the wrong way. The increasing reliance on camera technology and making speeding a scapegoat only proves that revenue is more important than actually safety.

Just because the government makes a law doesn't mean it actually makes sense or is right and unless people actually make a noise about it rather than just follow mindlessly like sheep then things will only get worse.

Anyway the moment this thread degenerates and starts going around and around in circles as this topic always does I will be closing it down.

            Cheers,

I'm surprised you didn't just close the thread. That's at least twice now that you've made similar statements about traffic cops.

Who are these PROPER police you speak of? The ones that turn a blind eye to what you do? Just close the thread..you've done enough to cause it to degenerate I reckon.

Ha, i was thinking the same thing.

Truth be told, having been pinged by one of these hasn't changed my thoughts on going 5-10 km/h over the limit, i guess if i was a habitual speeder then the loss of points and cash would do it......but going to the funeral of a 3yr old girl last Wednesday did.

Proper police are the ones who actually investigate actual crimes and arrest actual criminals. Ie. Rapes, robberies, murders, assaults etc.
Cruising up and down the highway all day pulling someone up for doing 115 in a 100 zone (not me) and ignoring the idiots hogging the right lane, tailgating etc is not protecting anyone.

I've never had an officer let me off or turn a blind eye. I've had one speeding ticket since I got my license which was only in the last month or so and I copped it on the chin, the spot he was in wasn't a dangerous location and in my opinion had an extremely artificially low limit, I wasn't speeding intentionally or doing any kind of "spirited" driving, I was just driving along watching the road and and got done. It happens and unfortunately as is happening in nearly all countries that are using anti-speeding as the solution (and failing) it is becoming the norm for people to have a ticked and just expect to get done at some time in their driving lives.

Once again i'm not opposed to speed limits, I just want appropriate ones. I have no problem with 40 and 50km/h school and residential zones. It's 4 lane highways that go from 110 to 100km/h for no reason at all when they should be 130km/h or doing major upgrades on a road improving it massively and then dropping the speed limit by 10km/h and sitting cops down there all the time to ping everyone for doing the natural cruising speed of that stretch at 80km/h. It's the fact that every time a police car is on the road everyone starts hitting the brakes, driving much slower and generally becoming more dangerous because they're afraid of being fined even though they're not doing anything wrong (initially). Those of us who do the right thing aren't meant to be scared of the police but unfortunately we obviously don't have the trust in those that are meant to protect the common majority to do the right thing by us.

I've said these things before and I always will. I can't see anything changing my mind on this because if a child is wandering around on a highway or major road in the middle of the night there is bigger problems here than what speed you're doing.

And it's the personal attacks and inability to accept others opinions and the going around and around and around in circles that gets threads closed. Give your opinion, have a discussion but at the end of the day know when to walk away and just leave it at that. It's not that hard.

                  Cheers,
                  Trent

I Googled drag strip, and all I found was boredom... Humans have been paying for someone elses actions for years, just the way it goes... I have also heard of capital letters, apostrophes, and full stops too...
