Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I was told by an Activision/Sony employee that they held it back due to the release date being so close to the release of COD Black Ops and they were scared they would lose sales because of this.
Either way, I hope this is the final release date as I've been looking forward to this more than I have Christmas since I was a kid!

Car and track lists have been released officially, over 1000 cars.

Of course here is the shortlist that you may be most concerned about,

      1009.S Volkswagen Beetle 1100 Standard (Type-11) ‘49
      1010.S Volkswagen Bora V6 4MOTION ‘01
      1011.S Volkswagen Golf I GTI ‘76
1012.P/S Volkswagen Golf IV GTI ‘01
1013.P Volkswagen Golf IV GTI RM ‘01
      1014.S Volkswagen Golf IV R32 ‘03
      1015.P/S Volkswagen Golf V GTI ‘05
      1016.S Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe (Type-1) ‘68
      1017.P Volkswagen Kubelwagen typ82 ‘44
      1018.S Volkswagen Lupo1.4 ‘02
1019.S Volkswagen Lupo Cup Car ‘00
      1020.S Volkswagen Lupo GTI ‘01
1021.S Volkswagen Lupo GTI Cup Car (J) ‘03
      1022.S Volkswagen New Beetle 2.0 ‘00
1023.S Volkswagen New Beetle Cup Car ‘00
1024.S Volkswagen New Beetle RSi ‘00
      1025.S Volkswagen Polo GTI ‘01
      1026.P Volkswagen Schwimmwagen typ166 ‘42
      1027.P Volkswagen typ2(T1) SambaBus ‘62
      1028.S Volkswagen W12 Nardo Concept ‘01

S denotes standard P is premium.

      Heaps of Audis, Lambos, Ferraris.

      Cant wait.
The cars in bold are the only new VW additions to the GT series the rest are carry overs.

With all the recent concepts VW have had, you would think there would be more new VWs added like Golf R32 Mk5 or Concept BlueSport etc

What does the Premium and Standard mean ?

Premium means much more detailed interiors. I think thats about as far as it goes. Standard have interiors, however they arent as complex or detailed as premium.

I think they are both same detail on the exterior.

A bit dissapointing there aren't any mk6 golfs, new polos, or even a passat CC and R36. Also would have liked some some new Aussie V8s. Do we really need 20 odd mx5s to choose from? Poor effort...
03 MkIV GTI - K04-001, APR 2.5" TBE/TIP/Software, Forge FMIC, GFB DV+, Powergasket+, Dark Tint, 17" Bora Sport, Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, BMC CDA, Dieselgeek SS, Hella Celis, R32 Alloy Trim...

I'm actually seriously considering buying GT5. And a play station 3, and a proper wheel (G25/G27) and buying a second hand bucket set and fabbing up a nice little driving combo! Only probs is, that'll be like 1K, and then I'll probs need a better screen!

what do you need to be able to race online?

If there was a Corrado, a Scirocco (any version) or a Mk6 Golf, then I might consider it. But i'll stick to Forza 3 for the time being...

Oh, and if anyone is up for a mid-week race, pm me your XBox Live handle...

i know a man with a spare bucket seat (he did the same - 32" screen, ps3, two seat, logitech wheel, shifter and pedals). was going to buy it and do a similar thing for the xbox, but i've been too busy procrastinating...

hahh I reckon I'll need one slightly bigger than that.

But my reasons and plans are pretty much exactly like you've mentioned. I want a more authentic experience.

I've got a welder and a decent idea about building things, so I don't reckon it'd be too hard for me to fab something up.

Maybe it can be (another) summer project for me!

The AU Falcon was like $500,000, I bet it's about $1500 now, comes with 500,000kms and LPG install.

As long as it contains a variety of MX5's and Lotuses I'm happy.

I am having this exact same dilema.

Maybe a proper racing sim like live for speed (apparently iRacing is also pretty simtastic) if you are after a realistic racing experience.
As much as GT claim they are a sim, there are still a lot of arcade elements (just as Forza contains arcade elements)

I know what you mean, but I was just referring to realistic, as in a proper seat, proper wheels and pedals, force feedback, etc. Ie not trying to 'ease' the power on with a button! (keyboard/controllers suck for racing games!)

I've played LFS before (demo, on PC, with a wheel) and it was pretty good! everything was adjustable, but it wasn't perfect. I don't think it had the finish that (hopefully) GT5 will have,
