  • pulled over by a police car...

    guys....

i got pulled over by a police car in my new black gti after dinner tonight....

and then the cop asked me all these questions like when i bought the car and if i am the owner..

then he said my plate cover is reflective and i need to remove it... it came with the car and still had Barloworld Volkswagen on it... so he gave me a warning..

after i got home...... all the european cars in my aparment car park had the same thing...

    WTF?

is he just being a diiiiiick?

Only if he defected / fined you. If it's just a warning, then take it as that.

Where did they pull you over? Was he highway patrol?

i came out from a car park in city... and saw a police car drove past.. then he saw me.. changed lane and followed me..

stopped me just before i got on the highway...

        still .... ruined my night....

if you did get fined, your dealer would be responsible, i wouldn't worry about it.
call your dealer if it bothers you

Out of curiousity, how old are you? It's a strange question, but he might've just been really bored and felt the need to pick on someone. I know in Conneticut they're illegal, even the number plate surrounds. My friend (who's a cop) is waiting for her ex to enter her jurisdiction just so she can sting him.

He would have to book every other car then. Those plate covers are on a lot of cars and they are also sold in Automotive parts places like Autobarn, Repco and Supercheap apart from being supplied by car dealers.

Sorry here guys, but YOU alone are responsible for your vehicles condition.
Much the same as if your passenger was not wearing a seat belt - YOU cop the fine.
I'd check it out with my local DMV or whatever its called in your state to get a definitive answer.
I also have these number plate covers and will check it out for QLD conditions ASAP
                Cheers,

The cop needs to go and do something else constructive and sounds like total rubbish to me. The dealer would not be putting something on that was unroadworthy. Sounds like he was playing God and just trying to find something to pick on. Of course if you went and complained about harassment they would nail you for something else again. If you weren't doing anything to attract attention then he should be chasing doof doofs in their WRX's on Evo's. We don't buy GTI's to drive like irresponsible wankers (most of the time!) and that is reflected in how much cheaper it is to insure a GTI compared to a rice rocket.

Nice black car. Presumably you might be youngish so they are just checking if you may have stolen it. Don't take it personally. I was once pulled over by cop car in residential area. They said its a random check but they definitely checked me out for age/profile and asked if it was my car (at that time a 200SX, standard apart from a gorgeous meguiars waxed look and nice 18s). They werent rude, just matter of fact. I see it as if you had your GTI stolen, you'd probably want that cop to be checking on it like the way he did.

I agree.... I saw the police car when i first drove out of the car park.. of course I then drove very cautiously..
one yaris with green P drove past and gave me a big horn while i was being questioned..
the police so should've gone after that car........

Ahh true. Just thought it could've been jealousy or something. Copper needs to find something constructive to do.

How is the dealer responsible? If he has a ticket issued it'll be to him not the dealer and he can take it to court and see what a judge has to say but at the end of the day it's his car and he's responsible for it.
