No matter the age, if you're on your P's, no turbo's (unless diesel), V8's or engines over 200kw.

being over 25 and on p-plates does change quite a few of the "p-plate restrictions" though, believe your allowed up to the 0.05 alchohol limit and stuff. I did think i'd read something like that about the power restrictionsnot applying for over 25s' but i may be wrong.

Not trying to steal the thread but on a some what related topic im going to be going down to sydney in like a weeks time, have had a quick look and even sent an email to qld transport but havent found a decent response yet... anyone know if I will have to follow NSW p-plate laws (like 90kmh max) when im down there with my qld license?

Yeah, stupid laws in my opinion, it should just be over 200kw ban, imo. I'm on my green P's and have an R32, but am not allowed a GTi? Go figure....

While I agree with you (not to mention you can't drive the 90TSI Mk6). The tuning capabilities for a performance turbo such as the GTI are much greater than the R32. You'd need to spend big on mods for the .:R whereas $1,000 gets you a GIAC tune gor the GTI that makes it a rocket.

                I thought APR was better?

                jk

Should be done on power/weight imo, but that would be the smart way of doing it.

all provisional, probationary and restricted licence holders
all class RE motorbike licence holders for the first 12 months of holding their class RE motorbike provisional, probationary or open licence
all class RE motorbike licence holders learning to ride a class R motorbike under the authority of their class RE provisional, probationary and open licence
all licence holders driving tractors and specially constructed vehicles.

QLD Transport has nothing to do with it.

You need to contact the RTA in NSW and ask them, after all it's their state you're driving in.

Presumably they will have a similar setup to Queensland.

When can I drive in Queensland on my interstate issued driver licence?

You are allowed to drive in Queensland on your interstate issued driver licence if you:

only drive the class of motor vehicle authorised on that licence
comply with the conditions (if any) of your licence
carry your licence with you at all times when driving and immediately show it to a police officer when asked to do so.

Hm yes, but even with the GIAC tune on a MK5, it still chucks out around the same power as a MK4 R32 with a ECU remap would; however, i can see what you are suggesting, it is a lot cheaper too get bigger power through a GTi.

Never the less, i fail to see how they can justify their ruling because of 'modification' capabilities, i mean, half of the meat-heads behind the transport probably would have no idea of costings for remaps/etc for vehicles. My bet's on some guy in the office with a suit on that throws down the hammer saying that "Turbo means suppaaaapowwaaahhh=DENY!". I think over 200kw ban is reasonable for P plates, but not a ban on turbo, as there really aren't a great deal of cars that come stock turbo that actually push the 200kw barrier.

APR is better (but don't tell people). Oettinger is the best though

Absolutely agree. It's quite clear that people who know nothing about cars created this law with that exact mentality. IMO, they need to go through every car on Redbook and only then can they determine whether they are performance or not.

I agree that it is stupid, and 200kw would be better (mind you 200kw is still a hell of a lot, especially in a small car). but once turbos get involved it does become quite easy to push it over 200kw with a few modifications, people could even put in bigger turbos ect. People could also bolt a turbo onto there vr6 (or commodore...) and pump out way over 200kw. Unless police where to bring a rolling road with them it would be quite hard to police how much power people are actually running, while keeping it NA makes it quite a bit harder to get these massive power numbers.

That said p-platers are going to hoon around in what ever they drive (went for like the most terrifying drive with a mate in his mums yaris...)

All you need is a computer to make that thing a P plate rocket.
