Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Buying a car interstate

So im toying with the idea of going down to sydney for a weekend some time and having a look at a few cars (am quite interested in vr6's, but dont seem to have very many up here), it could be a bit cheaper then getting one sent up anyway, and would not just be buying it without even seeing it.

Im just wondering what happens with registration, can it be transferred from state too state? If i were to buy a car which had just had 12 months rego put on it, would that all go to waste? Also would queensland want to inspect the car and all that?

I had a quick search on here and googled it but only found a few mixed answers... So figured id ask.

Draw up a contract of sale (for your own protection).
    Arrange Full Comp Insurance.
Sign over the pink slip (rego papers).
Drive the car back to QLD.
    Get a Safety Certificate (RWC).
Go to QLD Transport, surrender the NSW Plates. Apply to Register in QLD.
Send surrender letter to NSW RTA and get a refund of the outstanding Rego!
    Happy days!!!

I hope this all makes sense, I have done the above many times with no issues at all!

I'd recommend you do some window shopping first and decide what looks best from your PC. then if youre keen one one, ask the seller if you can get it independently inspected, before you go down and look.

That way you can assess overall quality, the life left in brakes and clutch etc. It might be a dog, and you'd like to know this before you take a look?
