I wonder how much of the Cadillac CTS-V suspension system has been carried over or based on our very own VE, cause they also have Magnetic Ride Control.

If so, it must not be too bad considering it held the Lap record around the Ring for a 4dr production sedan with 7min.59 sec for nearly 2 years!

Only until recently beaten by the Porsche Panamera & even then the Porsche only beat it by 3 seconds with a 7min.56sec

Couple of interesting cars around here. One is a lime green SS commodore with Chevy badges. Also front and rear cameras, a computer screen, and red and blue lights behind the grille, in the turn repeaters and on the boot. Very productive.

The other was what looked like an R8 at first glance. At second glance it was too narrow and tall. A look at the number plate gave the game away. TT R8.

I started a bit of a commodore-bashing thread, but there's been plenty of support for the home-grown stuff, especially from Golfworx and thats good. Like a lot of you, I've owned a lot of different brands, but if you own a VW and something breaks.......be prepared for $$ pain. Thats from experience.

I couldn't find anything on Top Gear about testing VW's fastest production car ever made (must have made a massive impression on them not to R/test it!) but I've found only a couple & one being on Fifth Gear

Fifth Gear R/testing the HSV (Vauxhall)

              Top Gear R/testing the HSV

Now these cars are roughly priced the same OS & I'd say these tests aren't biased like the Aussie R/tests towards VW's or anything euro, but you'd think these people would be leaning towards the euro trend over the Aussie so called "crap" but...

One thing I found surprising (not really though) during my search is they never, ever mention pitting the VW up against the likes of a BMW let alone the M5. Mmmmm

I also noticed how much more enthusiasm that the hosts/drivers have towards the HSV over the R36! Mmmmm.

So I'm still yet to see how the Passat is far more of car now than the commodore will ever be.

Judging by all the vid's & R/tests I've read or watched, I'm still yet to see how the VW brand is better or even in another league than our own Aussie built HOS.

VW may be in a different league, but I can definitely say its a couple of rungs down the ladder!!!!!

My Golf has Audi badges on the wheels, am I trying to hard?

My personal favourite was an Audi S4 or RS4 with a 1.8T badge proclaiming it's normality.... Not.

Ps. For all the haters out there - bang for your buck value of an 12 month old VE Calais V will crap all over any Pasat, R36 included. I'd still rather a R36 personally, but you cant deny they are an exceptional amount of car for their value - with or wothout Chevy badges.

Down the ladder from a Holden? Well I can safely say I am in a position to comment from FIRST HAND experience. I have had three VEs, a V6 Calais, a HSV Clubsport R8 and a V8 Calais V Sportwagon. The R36 is more refined, more luxurious, handles better, is more comfortable (OMG THE SEATS!!! Haha I've said that so many times but I can't say it enough), has more features, drives better, has more torque (power:weight) than the LS2 Clubby did and beats it around two race tracks that I've been to, MDTC and Wakefield - both in NSW. Yes the Holden V8s have more top end but the R36 out performs them in all the corners and puts down grip at all four corners. The only thing the VE range beat the R36 on is standard bluetooth integration. Now all that being said, I love the R36 as it is better than the Holdens/HSVs in almost every way but by much? NOT AT ALL!!! I don't have the feel of driving a big V8, the noise that comes along with that (which I love) or the extra interior room in the R36 that the Holdens have, but the R36 is most certainly a better overall package. The VE isn't far behind but I wouldn't go back... And I LOVED every one of the VEs I owned...

I don't get why all the Passat owners are getting their backs up - who gives a toss if 1 person thinks the R36 or any Passat is sh*t for that matter. And the topic is about Chev badges on Holdens anyway - personally, don't mind either.

OMG. I just about fell off my ball

I don't know what figures your looking at but

                        R36

                        225KW - 300hp
                        350 Nm (259 lb-ft)
                        172.03 hp/tonne

                        0-100 5.8 seconds
                        1/4 mile 14.42 seconds

                        Clubsport

                        317 kw 425 bhp
                        550 Nm (407 lb-ft)
                        232.93 hp/tonne

                        0-100 4.6 seconds
                        1/4 mile 13.3@108 seconds

Now I'm no mathematician, but I reckon I could work out that the HSV would thump it every which way incl. loose

According to the R36 figures even a bog stock VP Clubsport ran a 14.4!!!

This thread is getting better & better.

I'll give credit where credit is due & its good to see that at least your using your R36 Rocket in anger.

I'm sure there are plenty of people that would reckon a R36 is too good for track use

                          Passat is the new polo.

Ie. I wanted an RS4 but could only afford this like the polo fan boys wanted a Golf GTI but could only affoird that. Seriously Rocket - how could a R36 be quicker around the track. If it were pissing rain, I could potentially fathom it for a moment but in the dry - if going off your own "proven and tested" experience of the HSV vc the R I would suggest your driving skill has drastically improved and not the car.

And I say that from experience also so it must be true.

My clubby didn't have 317kw or 550nM. Re-read what I said and then get a clue.

As for "getting my back up", I'm not. If I didn't think the R36 was a better car, I would have kept the HSV Clubsport R8.

And I wasn't comparing my times in both cars. I was comparing other drivers in their HSVs to my times. Granted they were **** drivers, but I was still beating them in the R36 and they were SERIOUSLY upset about it! LoL

As for quarter mile, well I never drive my car a quarter mile at a time. Drag racing is the most pointless, boring form of motorsport in my opinion. I mean I love the stats the fastest guys in the world have (incl. the stats of their cars and the engineering that goes into them) but it's so boring. I'm a race track guy - always will be.

I'll bottom line it from MY point of view, I get FAR MORE pleasure out of the R36 than any car I've owned before. And that's all I care about.

As for the RS4 comment, couldn't afford it? LOL!!! I test drove one, as well as an M3 and a C63. Yeah they're all quicker more powerful cars but are they $80,000 better value for money? NOPE! And if I had to pick one of those three other options I was looking at, it would be the C63. I came pretty close to buying it but it really wasn't $80,000 better value for money than the R36.
