  • checklist for building your project

can we all put our heads together and develop a project check list.
To be used when undergoing a project. In point form.
You know all the questions we must ask ourselves.
    body
    paint
    engine
    ect ect ect
it could get quite detailed but can help kick start new future projects.
refine decisions to a better result more thought out more complete.

    1. Space/workshop/garage
    2. tools needed (especially big stuff like engine cranes, hoist or stands etc)
    3. Storage for parts (shelves, plastic crates, nuts & bolts buckets)
    4. Computer with easy web access and ETKA if possible
    5. Whiteboard (for parts lists, to do lists, and to refer back to when you lose your way!!)
    6. Do your homework and get the right parts all stocked up before you start
    7. Get replacement parts needed (after you strip the car of course)
    8. Someone who can help. There's always something you can't do yourself, so don't stuff it up trying!
    9. decide on what you want and try to stick to it. But if something turns out to be impossible have a second option.
    10. Patience. Any project always turns out to take twice as long and cost twice as much as you think. Just keep plugging away!
    11. A calculator! Do a bugdet of what you think it will cost, and how much the parts you dont need are worth to sell second hand.
    12. Dont chuck out ANY parts till its finished. You never know when you might have to use something again!
    13. Posters of your fav cars. Get inspiration, it is the key to keep you going!

    Cheers

      1. Have spare money you're willing to waste on a car.
      2. have a rough idea of the type of car you want to build (show/race/street/daily etc)
      3. figure out how to achieve step 2. (ie, wheels and low?, powerful engine & great suspension)
      4. go back to 3 and this time keep 1 in mind!
      5. RESEARCH! and start collecting bits and pieces, also tools and resource materials
      6. Make sure you have enough money to complete project! nothing worse than a half pulled apart car and no cash to finish off.
      7. buy car, start build thread, ask lots of questions, get lots of input, buy some friends to help out even.
      8. know when to quit! don't be afraid to ask someone else (a professional maybe) for help, dont wont to c*ck up your new parts cause you didn't install them correctly, Also know you limitations (of what you can and can't do!, or can and can't learn)
      9. DO IT ONCE, DO IT RIGHT! obviously 'right' varies from person to person, due to different resources, budget, skill, knowledge, but dont cut corners!
      10. A project is never complete, enjoy V1, and start thinking of what you'd do next time!

When it actually comes to building a car, say this is a complete build, new/reco'd/upgraded everything. I'd test fit things first. If parts are replacement items test fit doesn't matter so much, but if there is going to be wiring tucking, shaving, smoothing & other customising and such going on, get all this done first, complete all the body work and do paint last. you dont want to be test fitting parts and having to worry about scratching you're new paint all the time! have everything set to go. then take it all apart (and see if you've missed anything) then paint it and put everything back together!

that's what I might do anyways,.

Try & work out exactly what you want to achieve & what parts you'd like to fit & try & add up your budget as much as possible then,

this is the most important part!!!!

        Double your budget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what you mean. I think part of the fun of a project can be to just start something and develop it as it went, roll the punches, see what bargains you can pick up along the way. that Can work out well! (ie zenders on my gld!)
