Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Unless it was a Bose one Alex, I'd go aftermarket for a replacement.

i like the red finish and the width will look funny with an aftermarket unit

found this, the web is an amazing place aint it

I recently had to pay to get my stereo code at the STEALER and they are such lying sacks of you know what! If you lose your four digit code, Audi will tell you to that you have to go to the dealer and they will hook it up to a computer that goes to Germany to get your code. That is BS! All you have to do is pull out your stereo and find the 14 digit serial number on it. My number was AUZ5Z6B5021893, The code will be the last 4 digits of this number for mine it's 1893. Everyone that knows this and doesn't tell is really a slime ball. This cost me $45 bucks to figure out. I tired call dealers and saying I have the serial number and they kept lying about hooking it up to a computer. It reall only takes about two seconds to pull out your stereo with the stereo tools. I made mine out of two strips of metal after looking on line at the tools to remove the stereo. That was about a two minute job. Hope Everyone shares this info now and doesn't try making a buck like AUDI does.

You can get some bits of trim that fill the gaps and look OK imo. My A3 had an Audi stereo that was a DIN fitting rather than the full width in my S3.

Have a look at ebay for a replacment from Europe maybe?
