Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Whay is VW Aus so behind?

Can anyone tell me why VW NZ can get the Golf R and Scirroco before VW Aus? They seem to get the latest models way before we do and generally more choice of models too? Someone in NZ must be doing something right! or are VW Aus just useless?

We have Australian Design Rule legislation which means manufacturers have to alter there vehicles for Australia in what capacity I'm not sure.

From what I've heard NZ has the same standards as EU.

      it's pathetic.

is it because politicians/ people in charge of this kinda stuff think it's ''safer to the australian public'' to perpetuate on the world stage the notion that this country is a backward hick state?

i dunno- maybe the people who designed and built the golf r/ rocco, and indeed volkswagen, arent as qualified to confirm their cars' safety standards as the c7cksuckers here holding the red tape?

Was going to comment but I think the above sums it up quite nicely.

i think its also because we have auto manufacturers that build cars here and we need to protect our own aussie companies from imported cars....

The only things our "local" car companies build are dinosaurs. The "small" cars that are competitive are all from overseas ...

Holden will be building the Cruze locally soon enough.

And the Commodore and Falcon really aren't that bad - especially for the price, there's nothing else on the planet that compares with their competencies and capabilities (I'd not buy one, but that doesn't make them no good).
