  • What the??? Idiot of the week award

    Goes to this woman.

A Victorian woman had up to $125,000 in cash stolen from her while shopping at her local supermarket, police say.

A Victorian woman has lost up to $125,000 after her handbag was stolen during a shopping trip to a local supermarket, police say.......

Police say there was between $100,000 and $125,000 in the woman’s handbag, which she had been carrying with her for quite some time.........

Detective Senior Constable Paul Hollingworth said the woman, who emigrated from Iraq nine years ago, had loaded her car with her shopping and driven away from the Mildura supermarket about 2pm, not realising she had left her handbag in the trolley........

Constable Hollingworth said the woman was saving to buy a home.....

"Different people have different ideas about how they keep their savings," he said. "She was very upset.’’.......

    Hahahahaha.
    Epic fail.
How could you even fit that much money into a handbag.

Imagine if you found it though, i don't know if i would be able to keep it.

1,250 hundred dollar notes don't take up much space.

There are a million and one reasons why this could have happened, both culturally and psychologically. We'll all have an opinion. Here's mine; she was living amongst us but didn't trust us.
I hope whoever found the money turns it in when they read about her and helps her love our country enough to use a bank ffs.

To laugh at the misfortune of this lady is not only insensitive and callous, it also shows a distinct lack of understanding of the situation she left behind in Iraq nine years ago.

Before you judge "Epic Fail" etc. walk a mile in her shoes.

Although my heart goes out to her at how much that would suck, and I do agree with your sentiments, she has been living in Australia for almost a decade and there is more than enough education around on finance management and how the banking industry here is (relatively) trustworthy!

Common sense is pretty universal especially when living here for so long surely???

I suppose it depends on the individual's willingness/ability/encouragement to assimilate and understand their new culture and how it works...

I heard about this on the radio and was dumb-founded as to why the reporter alluded to the fact that it is common for most Iraqi's to carry large sums of money due to there lack of trust for banking institutions.

Isn't this just giving would be thieves the heads up on who to target?

And in relation, to having common sense and banking the money, it can be very difficult for one to change the way they go about there business when it is ingrained in you from such a young age that you trust no one (especially banks or the government for that matter) - obviously depending on country of birth.

I've seen $1 million in cash before. I can assure you it's quite underwhelming!

$1 million in weed looks much more impressive. Can't buy Porsches with weed though...
