  • Eternal Pedestrians! New driver loses licence on first day

    Caution - Genius at work!
    ************************************************** **
A Kyneton man has been fined and banned from driving after having his car impounded for hoon driving on the day he received his drivers licence.

Police caught Dwayne Martin hooning with a friend in the streets of the town in central Victoria.

Martin and his co-accused, Stephen Lowe, were each fined $1,500 and had their drivers' licence suspended for 12 months.
    ************************************************** ***

I drove through Kyneton many years ago, and it doesnt look like there is a lot for cops to do out there, so not surprised they got done... it was prob their uncle that busted them

Should crush their car and make them appear in risqué movies together while they're at it.

IMHO, no one should have there car crushed for any reason!

If they've paid for it, no one should be able to take that from them & I reckon its a stupid law!

How about if you don't pay your bills on your house 3 times, the bank can come along & crush your house! Sounds fair!!!!

Maybe we should wait for entire story first.

Cause after all, cops these days can sight anything to do with hooning!

Eg. How about your car dies & flood's in a K-mart car park. You finally get it going & it needs a big rev to help clean out the carby & clear out the excess fuel.
Cops see someone revving up there car in a car park & say its "hooning", person gets done, fined & add's a mark against the car.

        Mmmmm.

        Does this sound fair????

PS its not just carbied cars that can flood either! I've been called out to alot of EFI cars that have flooded in there driveways!!!!

Easy solution is to give all L/P Platers a pink Daihatsu charade or Suzuki alto.

Trying to be cool and do burnouts in a 1L 3cyl pink car is just not worth it.

Also solves the problem of high-speed crashes.

I disagree. IMO, the potential consequences of 'hoon' driving (i.e. death of innocent people) are much greater than missing a couple of utility bills.

And I doubt cars would be crushed unless there is conclusive evidence that you were hoon driving.

No doubt police can abuse laws at times, but I think the example you gave would be the exception rather than the rule. As far as I am concerned driving is a privilege, not a right, and if the only way you can stop a hoon driver is to take away his car (lets face it, suspending him won't stop him!) then so be it.

I think the new hoon laws are some of the most archaic laws around, introduced by hypocrites that would like to think they have never put a foot down in anger... Police, like any other person, intreprite the laws they are given to their own means, and it's only some of them that get it right a majority of the time. Hoon laws carry the most amount of gray area in interpretation, as almost anything to do with the operation of a vehicle can be misconstrewed into hooning.

Getting a car crushed is another facet oh these laws, and I honestly cannot see how this can be seen as legal.

I'll add something that really annoys the hell out of on this subject when people talk about deaths etc.

You do a burnout & there's a possibility you can go to jail in an extreme case if your caught several times.

Imagine sitting in jail with murders, rapists etc & here you are sitting amongst all these harden criminals & all you did was a burnout.

                Ask yourself this

How many people have actually died from the result of someone doing a burnout or actually doing a burnout "V" how many people have died from the result of drink driving or actually drink driving?

I'd like to see the statistics of this.

Its a sad world when doing a burnout is looked at, as much worse than drink driving!!!!!!!!!!!

Now also add how many stupid arse drivers are there out there & I'll add...

How about the absolute idiot Tony Abbott & Co deciding to last minute do a U-turn on the Princes Hwy giving a bus & a semi truck no where to go!!!!!!!!!!!

Then having the nerve to say how dangerous the road is!!!!!!!!

The truck should have got them!

Its idiots like that, that without licenses would make roads a safer place to be!!!!!

But doing a burnout is much much worse than this??????? Yeah right!

You never just decide to stop on a 100km/h 2 way Hwy & pull a U-turn without looking at your surrounding's first!!

Just found this & is definitely worth a watch

That almost sounded like a joke because the bloke is so angry haha..

Guys, let's not turn this into a slinging match regarding police and the law, again

It may well be a joke, but what that idiot did it is still the truth & what the other bloke is flapping his gums about isn't exactly BS either!

It seems that its just too hard for cops to catch real crooks!

& I've had first hand experience with this when my house got robbed!!!!!!!

Cause its just to easy to pick on young kids with modified cars & get there quoter, even if they're not actually doing anything wrong!

sorry bro, but I own a 37kw mk 1 diesel. that thing was slow, but I could still speed in it, and 'dumbasses' can speed, 'dumbasses' can crash. simple as that.

no matter, how small, underpowered etc etc etc cars you restrict people too, they'll still be able to go fast enough to kill themselves if they dont have the skills/knowledge/experience behind the wheel.

Better driver education! proper stuff like they have in europe!

Oh and once again Tim, on the money here mate. couldn't agree more.

I think crushing the car is a pretty neanderthal "eye for an eye" response.

The car should be sold or dismantled and the proceeds donated to a charity

Better driver education is the way to go but the government want's quick fix solutions as they are generally only in term for 3-6 years.

At least the charade/alto can have airbags and will require a lot longer time to get up to speeds where they can actually seriously injure themelves which would make it a safe quick-fix solution.

I do agree that we need a much more strict driver training regime and to enforce it on every driver in the country.
