Check out the Western Australian department of transport for prices, but to find out whats available you will have to call them. Every state has different prices and rules with their plates. Perth sucks because you never technically own the plate, as it must be on a registered vehicle, if not, they "babysit" it.

In saying that, the plates are a hell of a lot cheaper, and you can have up to 9 words pending approval from the department of transport (you can't have VW as it's copyright over there for some reason). In QLD the plates are rediculously expensive for custom plates, but you own them, so it's your choice to put them on a car or keep them in your bar. In NSW they have to re-new theirs every year or surrender them, so there is an ongoing fee.

Pointless visiting the PPQ website when he's moving to Perth, W.A Department of Transport is who you need to talk to.

I paid $450 for mine. They are polycarbonate (some kind of plastic with letters printed on) and you can fit up to 9 letters/numbers. You can have them in a "normal" size, you can have small ones, or you can have a normal size on the back and a small one on the front like me.
You can also get metal ones which have numbers/letters stamped on. They come in same sort of sizes like the plastic ones and they are around $230-$240 but they can have 7 characters max.
You can also have euro style ones which are similar to big EU ones but they start from $750 and on the cheapest one you cant choose anything, they put random numbers and letters. They go up to $1200-$1300. Not worth it IMO.
Heres some photos of my plates:
