its all good now folks- im at brissy airport right now, about to get on a flt to tokyo.

we had a 3.5 hr delay yesterday because of the electrical storms in melbourne, and that made us miss our syd-nrt connection last night, but somehow, some way, we got put up in the hilton in sydney, getting a bne-nrt connection, and our flights to sapporo are only gonna get in a couple of hours after we were going to get in anyway.

      nuts.

cheers guys. lots of footage to come.

the Japan season typically runs 1st December to end March and this year has been quite sensational for snow, compared to last season which was average (when I was there dammit!!!!)

              hey guys how are things?

just spent the fourth day in niseko- havent done too much exploring as ive been trying to teach my kid sister how to snowboard, and she likes to throw the towel in early etc etc so its been an arduous process.

nuts. thats all i can say. too many disrespectful, loud-mouthed, vulgar australians here who arent shy about cracking horrible, filthy jokes nice and loud on the ski shuttlebus, but unfortunately it seems everywhere there is an aussie presence, our reputation is not one that is well regarded. some of the utter c**ts here..... they make fun of the way the japanese speak english in australia, then they do it here, in the country of their hosts..... doesnt matter- most of 'em are kooks anyway, which i guess is why they're all obnoxious, disrespectful drunk boguns by the time it hits 5pm.

now, good stuff: found some wireless, but its really slow. so no teaser pics.

resort- BIG. i will not get to have seen even a quarter of it before i leave tomorrow.

village- there's an upper part and a lower part. upper part= lots of restaurants and bars, and shops etc, lower part= pension houses (think of lodges/cabins in places like falls creek and thredbo). upper part= noisy and rowdy, lower part= quiet, easy to relax, nice to return to. and the beauty of it? upper part of the village is only a couple hundred meters walk uphill. its easy enough to duck up town for a bite to eat.

snow: you'll get to see pics, but i was watching a video in a restaurant the other night, where a japanese snowboarder was being interviewed, and when asked to best describe niseko snow as a particular food, his answer?

"all you can eat cotton candy". he's right.

more to come. lots of filming tomorrow (helmet cam).

Aussies are always highly regarded everywhere they go - by themselves

Glad your skiiing holiday sounds like good fun.

hey gang thanks for the greetings!

dont get me wrong, there are lots of very cool aussies who set about the business of making the most of the snow and enjoying the culture here, its just that you dont really hear them because, well, they're quietly up for brekky at 8am, ski all day, quiet drink at the bar, then dinner etc all very sensibly- so for those of you guys who come here, the bottom part of the village is perfect for that.

its just the jackasses who ruin it for the rest of us. and the locals will never really voice any discontent because a) its not really the japanese way to, and b) niseko, as a township, is pretty much printing its own money.

but North Island ran way in to Spring

shame about the AU ski shop - pm me their name and I'll make sure I never go there! In times when all an AU ski store has over an internet buy is customer service, its a major fail on their behalf that they screwed it up.

In regards to Niseko it really isnt a true japanese experience IMHO...great resort, great terrain, but too many tourists. Next time head to Nozawa Onsen, Hakuba, Shiga or any of the 100 other resorts in Japan. These places are set in traditional villages and not many Aussies know about them, so no crowds on weekdays, real japanese food (wont find much in Niseko - head to Kutchan for a feed), real onsens...real friendly.

I went to Nozawa last year and loved it, probably head to Hakuba or Shiga in 2011 - Shiga is the most famous resort amongst the japanese and is the largest in Japan.

One thing you must do whilst in Niseko is hike the summit - not everyone does it so lots of fresh lines and you can drop down onto the other side and through the trees. If it's snowed get up there first thing!!!

here's some pics of my last Japan adventure @ Nozawa Onsen:

hey gravey thanks for the info- that's really insightful... and great pics! i havent been taking too many pics recently, but then you've gotta balance between taking pics and actually getting to the task of riding your arse off.

i did get a bit of a shock with just how many tourists/ aussies were there in niseko- im just glad that i managed to make it to rusutsu because to be honest, in my opinion, rusutsu as a mountain and as an experience, is far superior to niseko. i definitely plan to check out some other resorts, because there are a bajillion in japan, each with their charms. oh, and more snow than anywhere else, too.

now folks, this is just a mock-up which i did because i couldnt sleep due to shoulder pain (me + jump + landing that's been ridden all day and is now icy and dodgy = bonk), but here's a little teaser vid i threw together:

oh, and the japanese obviously have a quirky sense of humor that they like to try out on foreigners:

                                enjoi!
