mechtronic unit failures.

Guy's we have all read about other members with the mechtronic unit failure
but does anyone know what is the actual problem with the unit itself and how
does it fail within itself.

I was under the impression the failure was from older models but a member
posted the other day he had his replaced on a MY08 model, which is getting
towards my vintage.

So is there an actual date of model that the mechtronic units are now free of issues.
