2.Commodores - VB 4.2 SLE, VH 5.0L SLE, VK SS HDT, VL SL 6, VS V6 Berlina, VT SS.

3. Vectra International v6
4. Subaru Liberty Heritage - good handling couldnt make up for lack of performance.
5. Golf GTI - good to be back in a performance car.
wont mention the Ford Focus, Astra and Camry company cars, really want to forget them.
VE Valiant and Bedford Van stood out for me.. Noice!
Thanks for that. The bedford is s l o w l y being done. Mechanicals good, just body and interior to go.
The Valiant was a great car. Note. Do not pick a dyslexic best man.
The child bride had the answer to the overheating problem. Apologies for the picture. this was 1981.
New radiator and we were off again. Looking for a place to stay
Remember toughened windscreens?
That was fixed too. Just had to clean the bugs off when we got back
We took the Valiant, 2 extra people and a boot so full 2 of us had to jump on it Sydney -Bundaberg and back Christamas 81 -Jan 82. All we needed was a float for the carby at Bundaberg Chrysler.
The Valiant was traded on a 180B, 13 x7 Hotwires, vinyl roof and all.
We moved to Clare SA. It was cold
About 2 years later , a bolt holding the rear suspension crossmember broke at 100km/hr. This put the handbrake on.
Then the cable broke. The car ended on its side in a ditch, with all wheels pointing in different directions.
Here's the corona. The driver is now 23 and has a Hyundai.
Thanks, Preen59 I had fun going through the old photos
OK, I have a little time to play, and will prolly forget some cars and numbers, but...
*1959 Holden Blue FC wagon, manual, license car for me and siblings; in the family from new, died late '70's without rusting. Amazing.
* 1967 122S Volvo 4 door 1.8L,Ice Blue (that is dull grey til it got overcast, think Canberra, then looked blue) died when I t-boned a tree at around 70mph in the bush.
* 1967 Holden HR Ute hillclimb special. Bucket seats, 3 on the tree, tacho (was flash in them days), chrome on lots of the motor, 161 bored to 192 cubes, solid lifters which were noisy-as, lightened fly-wheel, with a ported and polished 149 head, 20-80 cam (from memory all sorts of tricks, had better hill-times than GTHO's (previous owner). Totally unhappy at less than 2000 rpm, ie dont take your foot off the clutch. Low-ratio diff, so topped out at 105mph. Awesome.
* 1968-70 Volvo 144s. Slug with P1800 motor and drive-train but looked cool blue metallic with Bolwell Nagari magnesium mags that weighed nothing. Sold the car for under 3 grand. (should never have sold the wheels!).
* 1972 (?) Holden wagon, tow-car (ex-Dad's). 5.0L Cleveland V8, 2-speed (!) auto, LSD. Forgot it was auto and managed to select reverse at around 30k's once. No apparent damage except to the rear tyres.
* (? year)white Mazda 1500 manual, really nice ride, Pininfarina styled. Gave away.
*Valiant Fireball slant six, delicately brushed with house blue. The original sleeper. Gave away. Became the Airlie Beach Y.C. club car, key under the floormat; until a policeman sunk his size nine into the front guard in the mains street one day and suggested retirement. The motor went into another Valiant and is still running AFAIK.
* 1978 or so Datsun 200B green dual control driving instructor car. Fist new car, total disappointment. Wouldnt do more than 160ks flat out. Lost 3 hubcaps one morning trying. Roof-topped a 12 foot boat Sydney to innisfail and back and teh rear springs were shot, warranty as good.
*1970 Ford XW, green. Rubbish six, floaty and heavy, sick-making.
* Datsun 180B, brown with vinyl roof (urg), AKA, "The Tip". No idea why it wouldnt die
* 1975-ish Ducati 860 GTS, blue metallic; motor and bike built and tuned from left-overs by some guy who raced them in Sydney. The other thing I should never have sold. Scary acceleration. Wouldnt sit in top gear til 105kph.
* (admission time) 1970-odd Honda CB 100, commuter special. Two dollar a week fuel type of thing. Last of them, fun.
* 1979 Suzuki 425 road bike. Did a few long trips with g/f pillions. Very nice under brakes, especially with a little armourall on the seat.
* Mazda 323, 1979 RWD. Became the tow-car and Bris-Sydney trip car for a decade. Cheap and unbreakable, rust got it due to being left under a tree.
Holden '65 HD, bought and sold unregistered, unstarted project.
* SAAB 99, 1978 3-door Kombi auto, cream, also a project car. Bought off a farm for $800, carpet and roof liner full of hay which had to be hand picked out straw by straw. Totalled by a drunk aiming his Holden 1-tonner at the B-pillar. It was the first time I parked it on the street, and came home to find it on top of next-door's fence. Written off.
*1988 Camira JE 2.0 EFI wagon, white manual. Last of a run is supposed to be the best, right? Wrong. Enough said. Sold to a mechanic who must have needed a challenge. Dropped a newly-fitted throw-out bearing half-way to Sydney Xmas eve with us and the grand-parents on board and a boat in tow. Nice one. Only car I ever bought at auction.
*1994 Corolla 4WD wagon. Nice car, reliable as, but not terribly fuel efficient for a 1.6L five-speed manual.
* 1987 Corona 2.4 EFI wagon, O/D auto. In family since new, paid $3,000 for it around 15 years ago and still the daily drive.
* 2008 Golf 2.0 diesel DSG. Its busy making up for a lot of the above, and doing nicely thank you very much.
Phew, think that's all.
