Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

lack of work with ford so they laid off 26 contractors.

I am currently on a 457 visa so i either need someone who will take over the visa. or give me a job but contract me throught my current agent so i can keep my current visa

or pack up and return to the UK...going to give it a few weeks to find something befor i pull the plug on this

Sorry to hear that mate, you work for Ford don't you? was this because of the recent call to make a more universal model for Ford global?

It sucks how hard it is for honest hard working people to become a citizen, my sisters boyfriend is Welsh and has gone through the same deal. He was laid of most of the way through his sponsorship thing went back home for a few weeks is now back and has had to start all over again.

Hope it all works out for you velly.

There has to be a way around this Velly.

****s me to tears at times the immigration policies. Having been subjected to the poorly thought out system myself.

Anyway, how far off going permanent were you? Is there not a move you can make to a real visa? Even if you had to fly to NZ and back to activate it, it would be a lot better than going back to the UK.

I have lost touch with the system since I know how my circumstances work.

I think you'd be daft to give in and leave in a months time mate.

                Chin up!

Oh no Velly boyo. Got to be a way mate, shop around i had a friend up here in Briz who is on a 457 and he was a cummins when i was doing a stint there. He took off as he soon found out like the rest of us it was CRAP. Anyway he shopped around and Briz truck co took him on. Are you through an agency??? They are paid to look for an alternative, i know they are not the best but this guy i know demanded it and laid the law and it worked out. Like i say there has got to be a way, perish the thought of going back there boss. i wish the very best of luck mate

Ohh no mate.. It's such a shame..

Annoys me that if you had of come here illegally you could have been SUPPORTED by the govt.. But that's another matter...

There's got to be a job around somewhere for you, mate.. Surely. You're a smart guy and i'd reckon there's more than one thing you could do. Don't want to move to Orange and design fridges do you?

                        Oh man this sucks.

Could you apply for permanent residency using your qualifications and experience? Surely you would have at least 50 points for your line of work?

I was on a sponsership visa when i first came here in 1999, i didn't like the fact that i could only be with one empoyer to stay in the country so i went for permanent residency, i ended up going back to the UK for a few years while i sorted it all out, but i could of applied from Australia, surely you could do it?

I wish you the best of luck mate, but i reckon if you really want to live here then there will be a way around it.

                          That sounds rough as.

As the other boys said, can you change the classification of your VISA?

Man, that really dose suck the big one...With a massive trade shortage in Australia, you should be granted citizenship straight up...Its not like you floated into Australia on a fridge, then went on a hunger strike so you could stay...Wait, now there is an idea, do you have a spare fridge?? We can get this sorted!!

lol...cheers for the kid word peeps

no its not got anything to do with the 'one ford' stuff on the news. The Falcon is set to run till 2018

It is just the lack of new projects, load of us got taken on 2 years ago and the work had faded off now. the sicken thing is i dropped the ball last year getting my PR and i ws going to start looking back into it this weekend (doh!)

My problem is that i am on a 457 visa which it tied into my agent so i MUST work for them.
So if my agent cant find me another job (which i am not hold out for off them as they are pants!)
i will need to find a job who will take over my current visa
or find a job who will contract me with my current agent.

i will be hitting the job sites hard on monday, seen a few jobs on there so lets see if they play ball with my visa.

will keep you all informed on what happens
