  • !! New Sydney Speed cameras !!

The NSW Government is now installing red light/speed cameras in one.

The first has already gone in at Haberfield.
The new signage refers only to "Safety Camera Ahead" and there is only one sign on approach.

It is planned to convert all existing red light cameras and some school zones.

The government intends to install 200 over the next four years. This pdf list has the first 50 locations.

More information is available on the RTA website at: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/speedandspeedcameras/safetycameras/

    and at: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety...mera_faqs.html

So don't speed up to go through the traffic lights. If you avoid the red light camera you will still be done for speeding.

    Spread the word.

A bit OT, but dose anyone know how often speed cameras are checked for serviceability?? I'm curious to know how long a coat of black spray paint will last on the lens of a camera...

            No idea...

That being the case, a chainsaw to the pole is probably the safer (and infinitely more aweome) offer
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting

there is a red light camera just down the road from my house, I'd say the service time is between 3-4 weeks. And they now have interchangable lense cover boxes which go over the unit's lense to reduce down time.

This is a repost of this thread from December...

Bottom line though is there's only cause for concern or worry if you speed and/or run red lights. If you don't, then who cares?

Be advised that Safety Cameras are already operating @ Beecroft Rd & Pennant Hills Rd intersection and also @ Great Western Highway & Reservoir Rd intersection. (This is in Sydney for all you interstaters!)

most sydney drivers sit on 5-10km over the limit normally.. its a normal thing in sydney (not saying people 'speed') however saying that its a normal thing to see around ..
