I guess it looks better than charging and extra $45 an hour labour.

Still, I would rather deal directly with the person working on my car, who has only worked on VAG group cars for years rather than some apprentice at a dealership, who's sole task is to pump as much volume through as possible.
I'm in Perth too- where did you take your car? Just been quoted the "normal" $330 for a 15k service by DVG in Myaree. Anyone in Perth know where to get cheap 507.00 oil?

Dont know about cheap VW507 oil, but looks like the Shell Helix Ultra Extra is a VW507 spec oil and is at Supercheap Auto for $75 for 5 litres, if you wait for one of their 20% off sales you can get it cheap. That's what I do.
Just need to source the filters through Skoda/VW/Audi and I'll do a little extra servicing myself.

I would be surprised if there is not an after market filter available somewhere. It would probably just be a case of somebody doing the research to match up part numbers and specs.

+1 for the Shell & 20% Supercheap sale.

Although, now my dealer is using 504/507 compliant Valvoline & "only" charges ~$75 for it, I just let them supply the oil last time.

Does anyone know how much the Penrite 504/507 oil is??

re: aftermarket filters - you need zee Cherman ones. The dealership only charges $18 for mine, I assume aftermarket might be $12-$15 so hardly worth it for $5 saving

Golfwagen in Wangara. He gives you a (basic) courtesy car included in that price as well.

Yeah, I was surprised too. It's a spin-on type. I think at the next service, I'll buy a few spares at the same price.

My Triumph filters are $22 at the bike shop or, $8 at the auto shop if you use a Nissan one which is identical.
I have been running Synthetic Penrite 0W-40 in my bikes and cars for the last 3 years and pay $45 for 5 litres from the local truck spares.

Buying own oil- save some $$$

Just had the 15K service on my 103KW PD Diesel Octavia. Total cost excluding oil was $230 ($200 labour, rest in sundry parts), plus a cost to me of $70 for the oil I supplied. This is DVG in WA who are now the Skoda dealers.

The dealer quoted $20/l for oil (ie approx $100), instead I dropped by the local Penrite stockist and paid $70 for 5l of
Penrite Enviro+ VW507.00 approved. This oil is not just meeting the 507.00 standard required, but is actually approved by VW so the dealer can't really refuse.

$30 is not a huge saving, but worth the time to get your own oil. Also, you are supporting an Australian company so that's good!

Just had our RS in for it's first service today (15k) at Mentone Skoda - $280! A lot cheaper than I was expecting. I'd recommend Mentone to you Melbourne guys who are in the East. Very happy overall.

Only issue they found was slighty high tyre wear on the front tyres... :-p

Well I think I am about to be royally ripped off...

I have booked my 2009 RS into Brisbane Prestige for it's first service as well as getting them to fix a number of items under warranty.

It has done only 7000 kms, but I was told I must follow the one year rule.

They said it will be $396.

The local VW dealer was slightly higher.

When I read that Victorians are paying alot less for the same service it frustrates me beyond belief.

Maybe everyone is placing too much importance on dealers when booking the service? I have always compared quotes with Autotune and found they help to "keep the bastards honest". I ended up using Steve Jarvin for my 15k service although only after they reduced the price to keep it close to Autotune. I also provided my own VW approved Penrite oil. It was $200

Before they start query the cost in relation to what everybody else is paying and get them to justify the difference. If they can't go somewhere else.
