  • weird happened yesterday...

Firstly, I'm not oz, and I've been here for only 3years. so I'm not good at english. hehe..plz understand
I just curious about mechanic drives customer's car.
    It happens day before yesterday.
one of my friend drive BMW and had noisy problem so he went to workshop for the inspection in Coorparoo. He thought the noisy from PCV valve something..i don't know what exactly called. After done the inspection, they rang to my friend and told what the problems are..and it costs $3,500 if wanted to fix..
    It were Annual check
    inspection
    Front control bush
    Front control arms
    Power steering hose clamp
    viscs coupling
    water pump
    Pcv valve
    a/c belt tensioner
    Drive belt upper roller
    Engine drive belt tension

He doesn't wanna fix at that time cuz cost is bit expensive then expected, however, he finally decided to fix it and call them to fix it.
after 10pm, i pick him up at city and on the way to home, we saw his car and follow it. we try to stop the car but ran away. eventually we got it. The driver was boss of the workshop. he said he's test driving now. It was 10pm!!!and with his friends. one man and one lady.

Is it general practice in Australia?? Cuz in my country, It should be stolen..LOL

the boss said didn't fix the car yet and it's gonna start on tomorrow morning and expect to finish the arvo.
we couldn't believe him so that we told him "we don't wanna fix the car and i'm gonna pick up the car tomorrow morning"

so we went to workshop at 7am and we wait for open the workshop.
he's coming at 8am with his car. but still can hear the noizy sound.
    It's happens from now!!
He said the car have been fixed so you have to pay $3,500.
what the fxxc!! it's ridiculous. he let the worker to show us what have been replaced. anyway we still can't believe him. so we want to see his car it's been replaced or not. but the boss denied it. he wanted to pay first.
we argue with it few minute and he said come to workshop then his gonna show what's have been replace again. actually we was in the reception.
we went to there but suddenly, he grab the metal pipe and coming to my friend and push him with the pipe. I tried to him stop it. then, he come to me and push my chest. I was fall down..he said get the fxxk out of my property!! damn I'm a customer!!

to be continue....It's so long story..

Thanks all you guys for the advise.haha
Actually the BMW is belong to my friend, not mine. and I think I have to remove the workshop name if its against the law..
    The next story..

Me and my friend immediately went to police office and tell our story to the police officer.
however, they said it's civil law so they can't help us. The suggest us to call MTA.
in relation to me, I tried to claim the boss about metal pipe and pushing me.
but!!!! It takes a long time and have to gather the evidence.(there's no mark on my chest..so I gave up)
so we just had to get out from the office...
we met friend who can speak english well..hehe
and then we went to the workshop again.

(Another friend recognize the boss and live in same place. he brought different cars everyday to his home.)

one of his worker start to talk with my friends...but he also refuse to let us see that car until pay $3,500. even couldn't stay there.
we decided to car back first and claim it..
about 12pm he got new offer from the boss.($2500 without control arms)
he accept that offer and car back. actually he paid $2000 and still noisy..
Now he is preparing claim to the MTA.
    Thanks..

Clearly by him getting the metal pipe out he's got something to hide. So if he's willing to assault you, I'd call the Police straight away. I'm pretty sure they don't have the right to drive your car apart from necessary situations (e.g. moving around the lot). He may have a right to keep the vehicle until you've paid for the repairs but if the noise is still there (from what I gathered from your story) then it hasn't been repaired yet.

Shoulda gone the next street over to a decent mechanic...

Holy ****, sounds like you got one hell of a got a dodgy mechanic.

Call the police immediately, get it on record he assaulted you, drove your car without permission(doubt much will come of it), threatened you and has now effectvely stolen your car.

If I were in that situation I don't know what I would do, I would be enraged.

          No, no, no!!!

DEFINITELY should NOT be driving customer car at night with friends!!!

A test drive is a zip around the block for 5 mins.

If he's threatening you with a pipe he is hiding lots of naughtiness!

Only a loser reacts that way anyway.

If you have a car insurance company, contact them for advice. There are insurers that conduct vehicle inspections and may be able to determine if the repairs were required and the approx. cost.

Next, check if the company is a member of Motor Trades Association. If they are, contact MTAQ and make a complaint, they should be able to determine if the repairs were required.

Next, if the problem hasn't been resolved (and you have substantial evidence from the above course/s of action), you can take the matter to the Small Claims Tribunal.

If all else fails, go to Today Tonight, dodgy mechanics are their bread and butter

That's quite a scary experience to have I'd imagine!

I hope it all goes well for you. As everyone above has said, he is clearly in the wrong and you need to go to the police, and your insurance, and the motor trades association. I personally had a hard time with a panelbeater who never warranted extra work on my car and then demanded extra money on the day it was ready...that was quite messy but I went to the same people (police, insurance, MTA) and the issue was settled.

I've heard bad things about Brisbane Motor Works, very dodgy. I agree Maca, Mike Weber is in the next street and very trustworth/reasonable.

Hope it gets sorted. Definitely report it to the police asap. Also you can't trust that they fixed anything.

What would you have to do?

Damn mate that's no good at all. It sucks that they think they can just treat you like that and get away with it. Slack that there seems to be no recourse with the pipe incident either, you'd think that something could be done about that. What type of BMW was it?

Oh. and I think I saw you somewhere on the coast last week or two sometime. Black done up Mk4 GTI with the rear wing. Was it you?

                            Get a lawyer.
If your friend paid with a credit card I would be calling the card issuer and putting a stop on the transaction.

Go back to the police, demand that they investigate the assault. You were threatened with a bar and knocked down. You have been assaulted.

But I have 1 big question. Why did you let the guy keep driving when you caught up with him at 10pm. I seriously would have taken the keys, or stopped him from driving off and called the police straight away.

I would've called the police straight away and reported the car stolen and that you were following it right then, but were too afraid to approach the possible theif/s. Would loved to have seen the mechanic try to explain to the cops what he was doing "testing" your friends car @ 10pm at night with his friends.
Good luck to your friend trying to sort out this mess and everyone should spread the word that this mechanic is to be avoided like the plague.
Not, that i would ever condone such a thing but it would be a pisser is someone hacked the website and changed the copy to "When your BMW is due for a service, you can feel rest assured that we will carry out an overly priced maintenance program exactly as stipulated in our version of the BMW handbook. We will also endevour to drive your car for our own personal usage at any hour of the day, under the guise of test driving. We also reserve the right to rebutt any questions you may have relating to service/maintenance issues with a metal pipe."

In all seriousness, i hope your friend sorts this out in his favour and the best option would be to get some legal advice.
