Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Not a fan of the whole "celebrity" thing either, but how do YOU define the difference between a sports star & a sports celebrity?

I admire people who ply their craft successfully.

That can include the likes of Britney, - I actually admire her for trying to get on track, in spite of a number of appalling gaffs.

I just don't go for all the hype such as surrounded Woods.

You could say I'm "low-key" in my view of gifted people who develop their gifts as they should.

lol, where do you think the money goes then? sporting events create a huge amount of revenue and provide many, many jobs. last weeks masters was said to generate ~30mil for the local economy. not a bad outcome from a 3mil investment.

I tried to film him teeing off, but too much security around. Got some footage of him on the driving range though.

On one of the holes he stopped nearly 3/4 through his downswing cos something wasn't right or he got put off by a fly/camera/talking. Cameron Percy and his caddy just looked at each other like wtf..amazing amount of control he has.

                    Glad someone enjoyed the pics...

How many millions in lost revenue was there though?! All the speed cameras on warrigal rd wouldnt have had much success over the 4 days of the tournament due to the bumper to bumper traffic

Fair enough playing golf for leasure, i understand that...but a sport...i dont think so.

Its even more boring to watch than test cricket.
It's a fine art... As is racing a car which is considered a "sport".

I'm not the sportiest type, but I can respect the leaps and bounds ahead that some people are.

It's like a car running from 15 second 1/4 miles to 12 second 1/4 miles. Nothing that's too hard to achieve with a bit of cash. But trying to axe a further 3 seconds off to hit 9s is a whole different ball game.

It goes back into the sporting industry or another non vital industry instead.
The paralympic games committee has just asked for 100Million, where do you think they get that sort of money from?

And the 30Mill proposed revenue i would like to see how much of that is actually realistic and where they spend it.
To me, spending 100Million and finding a cure for prostate cancer is more important than glorfying some people with atheltic ability and no real job or support to the australian economy.
They are going to need all the healthcare they can get after they reach 30 anyway so why not put the money there in the first place.

Dont be stupid dude, since when has a great sportsman been defined by the amount of money they make? I dunno what my bank account has to do with anything here but im sure it tops yours.

Racing cars requires ALOT more physical endurance and performance than most other sports. Have a go at a corner at 120 and see where your guts end up, now try and do that over and over for an hr.

Ali was a great sportsman, Jordan was a great sports man, Schumacher was a great sports men. Tiger woods...not so much. He's good at Golf but you cant realy call that a sport, i mean damn, the only way they will brake a sweat is if its 35 degress and even than they have a caddy holding an umbrella for them haha.

Sports is defined as an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition. Golf does not require any significant physical exertion and should therefore not be considered a sport. A person who plays Golf is a Golfer not a sportsman. FFS they dont even walk to the ball.
