Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mazda 3 MPS

So i was at a clients today which happens to be a Mazda dealership and got talking about my "fetish" for GTI's and i got offered a test drive in the new Mazda 3 MPS. Couldnt turn that down! Anyway ive driven the old one and wasnt massively impressed so was interested in what this was like.

My first impression was how horrific (visually) the interior was which wasnt a good start but the quality seemed better than the last MPS but still nothing like the Golfs still. I drove for about 15 mins on motorway/60kph roads and the acceleration is still impressive but the power delivery is still quite top end. It wasn't a particularly comfortable ride as far as the suspension goes and certainly wouldn't want to drive it to work every day on Sydney's roads!

To me (and yes I admit I am slightly one sided!) its still a boy racer car which will appeal to many but not to me. I'll stay with what i know

Any improvement in the front grip over the previous gen MPS for taking off with so much torque going through FWD?

Very quick cars but I'd never own one.

When I was shopping around for my MK4 .:R

I decided to see what the buzz was about with the MPS.

I did test drive the previous model MPS at the Subaru dealer down Liverpool.

To be honest, I didnt push it as hard as I should off. But after test driving a few chipped .:R's, the MPS felt quite bland. As mentioned the power is at the top end. A bit of torque steer, which turned me a bit off. Heard a few bad things about their engine mounts too.

Still a great car with loads of potential. I would own one, but not over my .:R.

Should of test drove the 06-07 WRX Club Spec 9, which was there at the time.

The new model of the MPS, not a big fan of the front end. Bonnet scoop looks like a mail box LOL!!

          Just my 2cents.

It might be a little rough, but it's still faster round a track than the new GTI.

Has anyone done a proper test drive of the new WRX? I was in one, but didn't have a chance to compare it to the mps/gti.
