Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

He traded in his 3200GT for it. He told me that in the last year of ownership he'd spent nearly 50k on the damn thing to keep it running.

They're from an era before the Italians picked up their game and even now they'll still hardly the most reputable up there.

That's why I always laugh at the ads where people win $1 million on power ball and then go and buy a big boat and/or a Ferrari. The initial outlay is relatively cheap actually! It's the running the car and keeping it in good condition that WILL cripple you if you don't have the means to keep the maintenance and servicing up.

    Cheers,

Absolute words of wisdom Trent. I worked for Mercedes for only a year however this was enough time to get hundreds of high end cars valued as trade ins. When you upgrade to the finer end of the car market warranty is your one and only friend All the rest is financial pain. Sorry Ryhs if you have crazy income like a majority of my clients who rarely even asked about the price of the new car then please disregard my concerns.

I am going to re-write the making a small fortune in aviation joke here.

To make a small fortune in exotic cars, you need to start with a large one.

Bearing in mind I am 41 and married with kids etc etc.

Even running "semi exotic" VWs like G60s is much more money than the run of the mill vehicles. Petrol was just a starting point with those.

I just couldn't imagine the sleepless nights if there was a new tapping from under the bonnet.

      If I had spare money for a car, I'd be looking for a 964 Carrera 4 or a 968CS.

Sometimes you have to go with your heart?????

Best of luck whichever way you go.

                just do it.

worry about other things later like which woman to chose, the leggy blonde or the busty brunette, these are the hardest decisions in a maserati owners life im thinking.

A lot of guys posting here seem to believe that it is the flash car itself that attracts the "hot" women.

IMHO (and I must qualify this opinion by admitting I've only ever known one women that liked one of my cars enough to make the first move, and that was before I went bald anyway), what is really happening is that expensive cars are a way of signifying that you are wealthy, and it is the money that is really attracting certain women (and even then there are limits - unless you are really stinking filthy rich )

That's true, and do you seriously want to get attention from blondes whose temperaments are on par with their vicious cocaine habits?

You only need each one for one night. There's more than enough said blondes at Surfers to keep you going until either you get sick of it and settle down properly or your penis shrivels up and falls off from all the venereal diseases that you've caught from said blondes or your Maserati has broken down for the 50 millionth time and had to be towed back to the mechanics because you can't afford the upkeep.
                      Cheers,

Can we make that into a movie script? It seriously has potential,

                        "Rhys and the Maser"

Now all we need is a tagline

On second thought, buy a house now and buy a masarati when you're 60, your investment has paid off and you actually need the masterati's help to pull 20yr old blondes.

Take a VERY valuable lesson from Kryten, who is in a position to spend up big as he's paid off his major debts, and now has plenty of play money. I noticed the lesson.
