Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The way I KNOW that fog/driving lights that are correctly aligned and are using the correct specified wattage do NOT affect other drivers is that they don't affect me when someone has them on coming towards me and I have near 20/20 vision (checked bi-annually for my required medical). Whether it's day, night, in rain, snow, wet roads, fog, whatever, 99% of all fog/driving lights on cars with the on, have no negative impact on ME and based on my vision which is scientifically tested twice a year, I can quite easily conclude that there is no problem with using the majority of fog/driving lights. They do dazzle when they're too bright or mis-aligned but the do not blind.

Don't like them? Fine. Live with your views but also live with the fact that there will always be people that disagree with you and who will continue to use them. Pointless arguments just waste everyone's time and cause discontent between people. I'm moving on from this thread....

No it aint. If it was ridiculous - it would shoot your argument in the foot because the lights would not be visible to any other driver whos head was above fog light height which is clearly not the case. There would be zero value in having them on for the dubious see & avoid case.

Maverick, I am with you on this one.

The diagram is correct. You can see from the diagram below that standard fog lights do blind/distract oncoming traffic.

This is a car fitted with standard fog lights.

This is a car fitted with projector fog lights.

Lighting experts say that foglights are dangerous, the authorities say that foglights are dangerous, science says that foglights are dangerous, educated drivers say that foglights are dangerous, manufacturers say that foglights are dangerous and yet the only people that don't see them as dangerous are the ones who use them to "look cool".

You've produced nothing at all to support your wild and outlandish claims that foglights are safe to use and safe for oncoming traffic, yet plenty of evidence has been posted to explain why this isn't the case from experts in the field and you now choose instead to go back to your tired old argument and run away.

As usual all we've got on this topic is some tit for tat arguments, a whole lot of opinion and some Internet science links.

At the end of the day this is now the law whether we agree with it or not. If you feel that strongly then get into politics so you can actually change it. Arguing on the internet does nothing but breed ill feeling in our community.

              Cheers,
              Trent
