Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • [QLD] Drivers: learn to read signs!!

Can't believe how many people are getting caught out by the changed traffic conditions on Coronation Drive leading to the ICB. It's clearly marked by signs and road markings! Even though this is a semi-rant, it's quite funny watching people panic and merge across two lanes to get to the over pass. I can say with confidence though that none of us would ever get caught out; we're far too intelligent and our driving quality and hazard perception is far beyond non-VAG car users

Good job! Limiting inbound Coronation Drive to two lanes surely won't create traffic problems, especially in peak hour

Tell me about it. My lovely Jetta nearly got cleaned up by 3 clowns darting across from the right lane to the left at the last minute. Idiots.

Personally I think they should have extended a temporary concrete dividing barrier about 150m-200m further back down towards the Riverside Expressway, before you can "see" where the road goes, so that all the idiots who were sailing along unaware didn't try and change lanes at the last minute, and force them to continue driving to Milton and then come back that way.

Like what it looks like they're going to do on the SE Freeway, with the long barrier preventing people trying to dark from Juliette St onramp (inbound) across to the tunnel entry.

The worst part is the 40 sign at the Margaret Street offramp heading from Stanley Street.
Everyone drops to 40km/h and there is no road work for another km or 2.

Don't even get me started on the "roadworks ahead slow down" sign s with no one working or the guys on the footpath with no restriction to vehicles required

To be fair Maca, that area is a clusterf#$k at the moment, and has been a challenge for some time, whatever direction you approached it. New offramps etc always produce confusion, and will do so for a while. Lets just hope no-one gets killed in the meantime!

You're absolutely right! Living in Toowong, I'm over having to use Coronation Drive everytime I need to go somewhere. And as you've said even before these recent changes, it was a fight to get anywhere in time

I wonder if Michael J Fox is finished with that Delorean yet...?

I was commenting on this last night - you'd have to be mentally retarded / blind / on another planet (not that there is anything wrong with any of those things) to not see the signs as you come up the Riverside Expressway about the changed circumstances ahead. Unbelievable and scary the drivers that have that little situational awareness.

I actually think they've done a brilliant job of setting the temporary alignment to get 4 lanes around the wrong side of the overpass and then back over to get around the railway bridge abutment.

Hate to say this but it's quite true. I'm not saying that others are better and that I'm The Stig, but there are some shockers up here

Does anyone know why they have a Police car setup before the overpass?

Something else for people to look at and brake suddenly and behave erratically, so more accidents can occur and general worsen the congestion.
Our lovely police force is good at having that effect due to our having the utmost respect for them.
                      Cheers,
