Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Grrrr Windscreen Stonechip

On the way to work this morning - THWACK! big star-shaped chip in the windscreen, instantly out to about 25mm in diameter...

Novus coming out this afternoon to repair it. Fortunately my insurance has no excess, and unlimited glass claims, but it's a pain and I'll know that it's there LOL... Ah well, it happens I guess!

I had to have my windscreen replaced last week as a little chip that had been ''repaired'' completely cracked on both sides, leaving a footlong fracture in the screen.

We have a large amount of roadwork up on the coast and a bitumen truck flicked up a stone onto the windscreen of the van and it didn't crack but landed on the top of the wiper. The stone sat there for several km's doing only 40 in a line of traffic and then I passed a water truck wetting down the dirt beside the road and the auto wipers activated and scraped the stone across the drivers side for the full arc.

I tried polishing it out but its still there. Needs a full windscreen replacement.

Not one of the benefits of the rain sensing wipers.

Similar thing happened to me the day I picked up my Bora. Thankfully it stayed small and I got it fixed without a windscreen replacement.
          Nothing to see here...

Got it fixed, can still see it but it shouldn't spread. Novus to the rescue!

If it wasn't such a pain in the ass that would be a funny story...

Yeah I can smile about it now, you should have heard the scream I let out when the wipers went up. I tried reaching out the window but the damage was done.

Point to remember if a stone gets thrown up onto the wipers turn the rain sensing part off until you remove the stone.
